Nice '84 300D For Sale - VA

Benzers -

My trusty 1984 300D is on the block. For those who don't know, this car was pictured in the October, 2002 issue of Mercedes Enthusiast magazine. I made the decision to sell when the PO offered me a bunch of money for the car, but he has since fallen on something of hard times - he didn't know that home refinancing can *cost* money. Anyway, that leaves the car up for sale. Click here for pictures/info. Here's the scoop:

It is light ivory with palomino tex interior. It has euro headlights, rear headrests, and everything works. Most recently, it has had the rear brakes completely replaced (incl. lines, rotors, pads, etc), the oil cooler, the complete exhaust, the radiator, and the a/c condensor (or maybe evaporator?) replaced. A/C is still R12 and works great. Not too long ago, it had 4 new michelin MXV4s, a Sony in-dash cd, front shocks, and the rear lenses replaced. I have the original books, many records, and even the original owner's data plate. I know the history of the car.

I only know of 4 very minor issues with this car:

1 - The driver's side rear window regulator is "iffy"
2 - the emergency brake needs an adjustment (just haven't had time)
3 - There is 1 rust spot only visible when you open the passenger side rear door. Not rusted through, but it's there. This was a Florida car for most of it's life, so has escaped most rust hazard.
4 - The electric antenna doesn't. It just never bothered me.

Anyway, I already bought a replacement for the car, and it just doesn't make sense for us to keep 4 cars. The car has been garaged and is not currently being driven, save for a weekly trip to the store to keep it happy.

Price is $5,000 firm. It's worth it. Feel free to email me with questions.

Reed - I moved this to cars for sale. It will see more action for sales on this forum.
Nice looking car. Can you tell me are those the original front turn signal lights with the euro headlights. I am interested in doing the same conversion and want to keep my original turn signal lights.

Thanks, but in that case can you delete the duplicate post that was here..?

Those are the darker Euro lenses. I like them a little better. They came as a package with the lights from Capitol West. First rate package, but at a heck of a premium!

'Course I remember, and I still think that is one of the nicest wagons I've seen. Don't know if the opportunity will come along again, but I'll keep it in mind!

As far as my car, it sold today. I put an ad in the local paper at $6000, and it sold to the first guy who came to look at it, and also happened to be the service manager at one of the local MB dealers. There is definitely *some* sort of gratification in that! For those keeping score, it sold at $5000, exactly what I wanted in the first place! Now, if only I can talk him into some cheap labor on the 300CE.....

I'm shocked you sold the 300D. After reading your article on Diesels in America, I figured you a dyed in the wool 300D guy. I liked your website, I love your 2800, and old Alpha.

I'll buy another, or this one back in a year or two. I absolutely *LOVE* the old diesels. However, the obscene initial offer from the previous owner opened some other doors. The 300CE that I bought is really an experiment, over the course of a year, to gauge the practicality of nice used mid-line/cost Mercedes.

Incidentally, I drove the 300D to work today, probably for the last time, since I'm supposed to meet up with the buyer this evening to finish the transaction. For the first time in about 16 cars, I'm really sad to see one go.

Maybe next I'll set my sights on one of the E320CDI's that's supposed to come out next year... What is $50K...?

Thanks for the comments on the web site - I sometimes wonder if anyone ever goes there. I like putting up pictures of the fleet - past and present - if for no other reason than to find out if there are other Car Geeks like me out there.

The Alfa was the ultimate first car - looked great for cheap. Sad that I didn't have the reasources at the time to make it right. The 2800 is probably the spiritual descendant of the Alfa (in my garage, at least) - It's old, has gobs of character, and goes like stink. I highly recommend a BMW big-six to anyone who has never had one. It is a *completely* different experience from things Mercedes.

hitch02,
very close friend of mine just purchased an '82 300 TD Wagon w/ 32K original miles. yes, 32K. the car was in Milwaukee and it totally checked out. he paid $7500 just last week. i delivered the check - as the owner now resides here in washington, dc.

anyhow, it was the same color combo as your '84 300 - light ivory w/ palomino interior.

i've been looking for a 300 TD (preferrably a sedan) for the past year - and haven't come across what i want yet. in this case, my friend beat me to it and found it first.

seeing that you're in the area - could you help keep me in the loop? i'm willing to travel - but something in VA or MD would be ideal.

regards!
