FOR SALE: 1980 -W126 280SE Euro 4 Speed - Cornwall NY - $700 OBO

**** SOLD ****

The car:

1980 280SE Euro No emissions
4 speed manual transmission
144,887 miles

Work that needs to be done:
body fair, just a bit of rust under the trunk lid
Needs exhaust work, rear muffler broke off at resonator, but rear muffler appears to be in good condition, and is in trunk.
needs front right headlight lens and grill due to a run in with a deer
Interior front seats are rough, looks like the sun roof was left open a crack during storage. Back seats are almost mint cloth.
Clutch master cylinder could use to be rebuilt, as it leaks a bit.

Work I have done to it:

New Clutch last spring.
New brake pads.
Tires are about 3/4 left Dunlop SP Sport A2s
New plugs, new cap and rotor.
New front flex joint last winter.

The story on the car. (to the best of my knowledge)

I bought the car from a "Kid" that had it for sale for quite a while and wanted to get rid of it. He had inherited it from his grandfather that had brought it over from Germany. It had tail lights modified to put in turn signals but no emissions had been added. I have not had any issues with registering or inspections. I LOVE the car, but I am selling my house and do not know if I will have a place to work on it and have 2 other "project" cars. It has been a great comfortable car, and after above things are fixed, I would have no problem driving it cross country. But selling a house, divorce and things like that kind of change your priorities. I was going to park it at friends house for a while, but I would like it to get back on the road and that will not happen by my hands for a while.
I has Euro headlights that are adjustable at the dash and Euro bumpers. This would also make a good donor car for any one wanting to do a manual tranny swap, and euro lights and bumpers. I do not want to part it out myself as I am trying to sell my house and do not think a parted out car would make a good selling point.

ARRRGH ! the dreaded "fuel economy" gauge...

I'd have that thing disconnected SO FAST it wouldnt know the difference between manifold vacuum and a vacuum cleaner =)

W126 huh ? thats kinda a big car to have a stick shift in. I might be interested.

Cornwall NY (according to yahoo maps) is near the eastern border of NY near I-84 (?)

Silver boat: How long does it take to get there from I-287 ?

Yes we are not far from 84, about 5 min, just north of West Point Military Academy and south of Newburgh and Poughkeepsie. My office mate says about 1/2 hour to 45 min from 287 or more depending on traffic (of course you know about traffic). I am near the intersection of 84 and 87.

This has to be one of the first w126's produced. Didn't get to the US till 1981.:)

i bought the car....

it looks pretty good. a little rust here and there, but just to drive a W126 with a stick shift and euro bumpers will be worth it.

i have a parts car available for the grille and euro light and exhuast.

im not sure about the interior yet, it looks pretty bad. anyone know where to get new (or used) MB velour seat covers?

im going to pick it up over my spring break (beginning of march) so i will post some picts on one of the forums.

sweet! I always wondered how a w126 stick shift feels like. About the velor, its a rare option in the US... more common abroad. You can try Potomac autoparts, he seems to have just about everything, so its worth a shot. If not, maybe a custom place can duplicate what you have?

Yes sold. Sad to see it go, but I at least I get to look at it for a few more weeks. It was fun to drive, all four of my cars are sticks, keeps the wife, now X, from borrowing them! Sean, you might want to check out Xavier's in Newburg, he might be able to help on any thing you might want. I think he used to be certified for Mercedes warranty work. Seems to be helpful for some others he shrugs off. I got the cold shoulder every time I went in. He might have some good Euro sources. It is worth a stop just to see what is in the parking lot. Sean give me an Email before you come to pick it up and I will make sure the tires are full and will throw the charger on it over night.
