1983 EURO 300D 4 SPD Denver

I am not the actual seller. I just went and looked at the car today.
He has it on E-bay right now
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6330&item=2473222347&rd=1

The car is silver with black MB TEX interior.
5CYL diesel mated to the 4 spd tranny

BODY:
The body has some minor damage (small dents) but it is repairable
trim needs to be reattached
muffler mounts need to be replaced
passenger corner light needs to be replaced
pass rear corner window was out

Body has very little rust and is very solid. Looked straight as far as I could tell.

underbody looks a bit dirty but no major damage I could see.

Car has a original trailer hitch

original euro bumpers.

headlamps are the round type with clear fog lenses.

Interior
Dash is cracked, drivers seat has a tear in it but overall it looks good.
Speedo dosen't work
has euro headlamp adjustment in dash
Mechanical
Vaccum locks need to be replumbed.
Shifter was smooth but reverse lockout wasn't working

transmission is new!!!

Engine started very smoothly, very little blowby and no smoke that I noticed.
on the road it ran like a top.
brakes felt good
Oil pressure was at the top at idle
Did not hear any clunking or creaking.

There are some German maps in the glovebox.

Again I am not the seller of the car - This is what I saw when I went to test drive it today. Anybody with questions on the car please call 303-503-3962

You are a scholar and a gentleman.
It is hard to see a car from pictures and know anything.
Thanks.

I would buy this car but I already have 4 projects.....

turbodiesel 04-11-2004 08:11 PM

Why does your title say denver when the car is in boston?

Breckman99 04-11-2004 08:49 PM

car is in denver, typo on ebay page - Again not my car, just throwing up some info cause I took a look at it today

That doesn't look like MB tex to me. Those are cloth seats, at least the one with the tear in it is.

Breckman99 04-12-2004 02:52 AM

isnt mb tex the same as cloth? or is that leather?

190D22 04-12-2004 04:51 PM

MB tex is the vinyl that the majority of mercedes have. It can pass as leather, but if you know your stuff you can tell it's not leather. It's more durable than leather, which I'm glad I have tex and not leather.

Euro cars were available with cloth seats, an option that was not offered in the US

I got the chance to test it.

I noticed a few things not pointed out in the first description:

It does have a bit of blowby.
No exhaust smoke that I could see.
Has a good layer of oil buildup on the engine (Mostly around the lower oil pan, but it should clean up very nicely with a power wash.
Virgin ALDA (Performance increase possible)
The engine uses about 1/2Q between oil changes.
Uses Rotella Synthetic oil.
Hesitates at shutdown (Vacuum leak along with the door locks not working).
I really like the cloth seats, even with the small hole.
The power sunroof needs to be regreased since it sticks at about 6".
The key tumbler needs to be replaced and a new key made.
No A/C.
Shifts VERY nice and I felt comfortable driving it after a few minutes.
Had the throttle to the floor during most driving (Expected with a NA engine).

Overall it would make a decent restoration project and a reliable daily driver as-is. The only reason I did not make an offer is it needed too much work to replace my TD.

That, and I'm too addicted to the turbo
