Do you have any idea what real estate is like? I'm willing to guess your dollars will go further.

I think you are industrial sales now. What kind of job will you be doing in Maine?

We're moving to Waterville Maine, the town is located 15 minutes North of Augusta. I have already flown out there and priced out homes and I would estimate prices are about 60% of what they are here in SoCal although you get 10 times the amount of land. You're right my current job is industrial sales, and my background is in process equipment. I will be an Office Manager for a midsize Medical Office so it will be completely new to me. I am also going to be part of a Medical Billing Company when it gets off the ground.....so long as everything goes as planned.

I wish you the best of luck.

It just occured to me that your wife is pregnant.

The baby is coming fairly soon if I remember correctly.

Boy or girl?

Thank you, we will definitely need it.

You have a good memory, we're having a baby girl in late July.

Hope your twins are doing well!

EDIT: My wife and I just found out we're having a boy!!! Yeah she is 8 months pregnant and this is a big surprise for us both.

Upstate NY originally!? Where exactly? I grew up mostly in the Lake George area, have family there, and also up in Saranac Lake. The winters have tapered down from what they were a few decades ago, my parents have photos of Saranac in the lato 60's that would absolutely blow your mind - the stories would sound exaggerated if they didn't have pictures (and some newspaper clippings) as proof! Massive snowfall and Arctic temperatures (often -20 to -40 F overnight). I'm sure Maine won't be as bad. Your poor 500 will have to learn to hibernate 6 months of the year though.

Dave,

I grew up in New Hartford NY, a suburb of Utica. We used to visit Lake George to go to the theme park (can't remember the name anymore ) and to see the Winter Olympic Park. The worst part of Upstate NY is the constant snow fall. It's not like other areas where you have snow and then it warms up, in NY it snows and snows and snows and you get sick of it by the middle of January.

Your right the 500 would be in hibernation......if I still have it

Hi Afshin, Got your e-mail,I can try and sell one by end of Aug, Ive just put about $1500 into the 560 Sel trying to get the idle smoothed out, ie -idle control unit, which brought the idle down to normal from 950 to 650rpm ,still not perfect smooth, now new o2 sensor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, injectors, etc I'm picking it up tonight so you see this is a hard car to let go because I'm getting it all just right, been working on it for couple of years, garage queen, and I know its not worth what I got into it, kind of like you, but you have to find the right buyer to get a reasonable offer. how is the harness on you 500E, I had to replace mine on a 1994 E320 wagon a couple of years ago, dealer good willed 50% or $500. If I dont sell my 560SEL I still may be interested in yours but 4 cars is trouble when I just went down to 3 couple of months ago. Talk to you soon Mike

Hi Mike,

I truly understand not wanting to get rid of the 560SEL and if it were me I'd sell one of the E Class cars. Only problem is if the E-Class cars are used as daily drivers then it wouldn't make sense to do it unless you use the 500E as a daily driver. Let me know what you decide to do. I will say though that if you need any encouraging to sell the 560 take a trip here and drive the 500E, it might make the decision much easier.

The wiring harness will need attention eventually. It is certainly something we can work out prior to purchase if necessary. I've sourced the harness for $385.00 and I know I can install it myself. Here is a thread I started with regards to the wiring harness: 500E / E500 Wiring Harness Group Buy....

The larger harness on my car is fine and even the small harness has not acted up, I was planning on preventative maintenance like I have with other items to avoid any on road headaches.

Either way let me know if/how you want to proceed.

Afshin, thanks for the reply, I'm interested but as you know I have too many cars, What about the mechanicals on your car, any mods, 1st gear start etc. It looks great, but its a long trip to drive down to look, what else can you tell me about the car , have you ever had it to the track or strip, how strong is the engine, how hot does it run, trans problems, how long have youhad it, how many miles have you put on it, it sure looks like a great showcar, but is it a great go car, i dont think i would want it as a daily driver, it would be a crime to put many miles on that car or to have it get road rash or just daily dirt from the air, it looks like my 560 sel, keep it in the garage covered and drive it on the week ends. I'm kind of tied up till the middle of july, we have a family vacation in Tahoe till july 10th, when are you moving and what is your time schedule for selling or shipping the car to Maine.
Thanks Mike

Mechanically the car has not been modified in any way. Engine, transmission and all running gear remain 100% stock and original. The transmission retains its original serial number on the drivers side of it. Both engine and transmission run smooth and strong. I've never tracked the car nor have I brought it to a drag strip but I have had the car dynoed and it definitely runs the way it should. I have the dyno sheets and can fax them to you if you're interested. Another 500E and an E500 were also at the dyno day and my results coincided with theirs, which makes me confident that it's running well.

I bought the car 2.5 years ago with 54K miles. In the first year I drove it frequently and put about 6k miles on it since I started showing I've driven it less frequently to maintain its cleanliness and condition.

As far as driving it, I do drive it on weekends and to car shows so it does get driven. When I purchased it my wife and I drove it home from Seattle, which was an amazing trip. My wife couldn't keep here eyes open she was obviously too comfortable and I couldn't stop grinning especially on I-5 in Oregon flying at near triple digits. Aside from that I've also used it on winding roads in the mountains and again it performed flawlessly. Last year I drove it to Moro Bay for a big 500 GTG, I did put blue tape on the leading edges of the car to avoid any scratches and chips. I personally avoid highway driving in heavy traffic to prevent stone chips.

Items which I feel should be replaced in the next 15K miles would include the wiring harness and the caps/rotors. All other items have already been tended to. The tranny gets regular flushes nearly every year I've owned it and I change the oil every 1500/6months with Amsoil Synthetic. The car did run a little hot before I changed the radiator but after installing the new radiator the engine runs at normal temps. I've personally found that 500E's in general run hot at very high elevations combined with hot days. I've compared my results with at least 5 other cars and they coincide.

As far as selling the car I'd like to sell it as soon as possible. We have a baby due at the end of July and we're planning a move nearly immediately after that. If the car doesn't sell by August 25th I will arrange shipping to Maine and will have the car picked up in the beginning of September to arrive around the same time we do. The only thing that could change is when the baby arrives and I'm not sure how that will affect things....our first baby.

Hope this helped.

BTW I have records available if you'd like to see them, just let me know.

Mike,
Since he mentioned the dyno day...I want to add a bit of detail and perspective to Afshin's dyno results. (Afshin, I hope you don't mind.)

My '94 E500 was tested at the same dyno on the same day as Afshin's. First off, the dyno was a Mustang dyno which are known to report low results as compared to the more common Dynojet. The absolute numbers are less important then the relative results compared to other cars tested on the same day under the same conditions.

On that particular day, my car was measured at 235 RWHP. Afshin's car measured at 245 RWHP! Significantly stronger then mine.

Further, my car was later tested on the more common Dynojet 248c and measured 263 RWHP, corrected for "standard day." Based on input from others I've spoken to who have had their 500E's dyno'd, my results are "right in there." Most people report 260 to 265 RWHP using a Dynojet. Therefore, I think we can extrapolate and say that Afshin's car is a bit stronger then the "average" 500E.

Thanks for the info Glen, I'm sure that the car is a jewel and seems to be well taken care of, $30K just seems like its a lot of money for a 12 year old car, even though its a great car. $20k plus is the price range for the normal 500E, but as we all know this car is not normal. $5k more ?$7.5 k more? $10K more I dont know. If you want a show car then this seems to be the car and may be worth the xtra $$$$, It would be a garage queen for me and maybe put 2-3000 mile a year on it. It looks like a car that you would put on a trailer and take to shows. Thanks for the additional info Glen.

Afshin, it looks like your low mileage car is here, look on the new posts, only 13k miles, you could do wonders with that car in shows. What babout the wiring harness in your car, are you going to replace it? Will the aftermarket warranty cover it? did you check to see if the warranty can be transfered to a new owner, and what does it cover? Thanks Mike
