Washington, DC area 1984 300D

I am selling my '84 300D and thought I would advertise it here before I put it on ebay. This is a mechanically excellent daily driver. I have owned it for 3 years, put almost 40,000 miles on it, and have maintained it very well. Color is Champaign/Gold with a tan MB-tex interior. Interior is in very good condition and hasn't been smoked in.

Exterior paint is in nice condition, but there is rust in the rear quarter panels. This is the reason I'm selling the car. In order for it to pass Maryland inspection I would have to fix the rust, and I just don't have the time or inclination to do that. The car is originally from New York, and it is quite rust-free by NY standards. It is just better if the buyer check out the car and decide for him or herself the rust situation.

Otherwise, the car is in very good shape and is 100% reliable (again, it has been my daily driver for 3 years). In the last three years I have done lots of stuff like change all the fluids, install new radiator, rebuild entire a/c system, regularly change tranny fluid, regularly adjust valves, new battery... the list goes on. I never skimp on maintanence, and have a maintanence log documenting everything I've done. The only things that don't work are the cruise control, antenna, and right rear window.

I am looking for a very modest amount for the car. I had it on ebay about 9 months ago and the bidding went up to $1,250, so I'm thinking that's a reasonable amount to expect out of the car.

If anyone is intersted, email me at gregory_spring@hotmail.com, or call (301) 987-2636.

Thanks.

GregS

I forgot to mention, the car has 184,000 miles on it.

Greg, I'm confused. You say that you are selling the car because the rust will prevent it from passing the MD inspection. Masyland's Inspection is only required when cars change owners. There is no periodic inspection in MD, so its only an issue when you sell. As long as its your daily driver it isn't a problem. So why are you worried about rust on a car you weren't thinking of selling? Or did I miss something?

Maryland inspection is required when the car changes owners, AND when you move to Maryland from out of state and want to get Maryland registration and license plates. The car, and myself, are from New York, and the car still has New York plates. I need to get MD plates, and when I took the car to get inspected, the first thing they said was that the rust in the wheel wells would have to be fixed.

Thanks for clearing that up.
Welcome to the "free state" ( our motto), where everything is either regulated or taxed.

I'm surprised that Maryland has not figured out that you can regulate AND tax things - no need to restrict yourself to one OR the other.

I'm sure it won't be long until they step it up to the next level.

Many things in Maryland ARE regulated and taxed. Smoking, drinking, basically anything fun is regulated and taxed in the People's Republic of Montgomery County, anyway.

Come on people, no one is bidding??? This is a absolute steal for the bid price right now - $850.

See the auction and link to pictures here:

You've got another 5 days in the auction. The prices tend to go up pretty quickly right before the auction ends.

I don't understand why people say they don't see a link? The very, very, very first thing I state in my description, in big, bold letters, is "See Pics here:"

Anyhow, see pics here (!):

Sorry I missed it because it wasn't hyperlinked in the e-bay description. Nice-looking car though!

You don't show any chassis/underbody pics re: the rust.

By your estimate, how many hours of work worth of rust are on that car, total? If the only rust present is that which is shown on the outside of the fenders I wouldn't imagine it would be that bad. Lift point/chassis rust would be a different story, of course.
