Hi All and happy new years,

Wasn't there someone on the list that purchased a AMG kit that had shocks, swaybar, bushings, springs, and stuff for the 500E?

Was it Revbond? Well how did it work? My 500E has crossed 100K and I'm thinking about new shocks, etc. and want to know if it was worth it.

Mercedesshop staff: Bill, Lee, Benzmac... you've put kits together for the others, now how about one for the King of cars?

Eric:

...so many parts, so many projects, so little time...

I did purchase an AMG kit for the 500e. It consisted of four shocks (including the self-leveling rear), four springs, front sway bar, variously-sized rubber spring caps for fine height adjustment, and other odds and ends. And, no, I haven't installed it yet. I have decided to do it myself -- so I have been accumulating technical material (via microfiche, since no service manuals or CDs are currently available), recently purchased a spring compressor, etc. I also recently ordered a set of 17x8.25 EVO II wheels so I will be able to do the height adjustments and alignments just once. Maybe there is a method to the madness.

Anyway, I think I have everything I need, so, who knows, maybe I will have a free weekend this month and have it installed by the end of January... per chance to dream...

John

Eric,
Since the 500E was already the "Sport" sedan at the top of the W124 heirarchy there was no factory Sportline package. Your best bet for a suspension kit for that car is to go directly to a tuner. (Brabus, AMG, Carrlson, Renntech, Lorinser, usual suspects...)

Michael just fitted 245/45/17 on AMG 5-spoke wheels and seems VERY happy with the mod. Before messing with the suspension at all I might look at doing such an upgrade. If that isn't exteme enough you can stagger the setup in a couple of size matches. I believe the front can go 245 and even 255 while the back can hold up to 275's. I'm sure a search through past posts will yield further specifics. You may also want to ask Michael for further impressions of his upgrade. If you can't find what you are looking for you know I'm always happy to talk 500E's...

Hope this helps...Lee

Just popped the AMGs back on for a reprieve from the OE wheels & snow tires (they handle horribly, and I expect clear weather for the forseeable future here in New England) and can't say enough about the 17s and Pilot XGTZ4s. What a package...rides as nice as ever, real quiet, great in the rain, accelerate well, just aces! Absolutely no down-side other than cost. I expected a ride penalty, but it never showed. Good luck!
