I wasn't sure if the green question was facetious or not, but no, colors shouldn't affect anything.

GPS Units are not affected by clouds; only dense, solid objects, especially metallic ones. Color of the object has zero effect on GPS performance. You probably perceived an issue with clouds if you used your handheld inside the passenger cabin; i.e.: surrounded by sheet metal. Handhelds are not as sensitive as installed units in picking up multiple GPS signals - a requirement for GPS positioning. Although, you are correct in assuming technology has advanced and newer GPS Units are generally better at acquiring and holding numerous GPS signals. Regardless, congrats on the top speed!

My (older) handheld unit is most definitely affected by could cover, but that's probably more due to the age and design of the unit. I should get a newer one and see if I have the same problem.

The radio frequency at which GPS operate allows precise positioning regardless of weather conditions. You can be in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, riding out a fierce Nor’easter and still know where you are using GPS. That is one of the purposes of the GPS system. Only under extremely dense cloud cover – approaching biblical proportions - could a nominally operational GPS Receiver miss a GPS 'Bird', and even then it is unlikely. If you are truly having difficulties on cloudy days, then your unit is in need to repair.

So Mikey_E430 - how is the chip now that you've been running it for a while? My E430 has the E55 suspension installed and I'm loving the way it handles/drives, but some additional power is always welcome. I run 94 octane gas...so perhaps there is a chip that can take advantage of this?
