Manual transmission for C36 powertrain
I'm contemplating putting in a 5-speed manual transmission on my C36 powered W124 wagon with either a 3.27; 3.07; or 2.87 rear end.
I've narrowed it down to four manual trannys: 1) 300E 5-speed; 2) 190E 2.6 5-speed; 3) 190E 2.3-16v 5-speed close-ratio (5th gear is 1:1) 4) 300SL (R129) 5-speed Comments, suggestions, etc ? Anyone know the ratios for options 1, 2, and 4 ? Thanks in advance, :-) neil 1988 E36T AMG 1993 500E |

IMHO you would have to go w/ one from either a 16v or maybe the 129. I believe they both have the getrag tranny and you need all the beefy-ness you can get. Mercedes never put a manual in anything larger than a 300 fo a reason...

I just got a C36 AMG and I'm wishing the the 16v trans would bolt up too it seems so boring to drive without the getrag, the trans spline and motor casing are the same on the 16v and C36?? that would be tooo kool
