Questionable HP Increase Device...
Just stumbled across this on eBay.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6783&item=7924965795&rd=1 He has one listed for every conceivable model of MB. Interesting concept...I just wonder what wires he's hooking the thing into and the possible concequences for ones engine/expensive sensors. Any ideas what exactly this thing hooks to/how it adjusts what-ever it adjusts? (He calls it an IAT sensor... what is that on an MB...knock sensor?) Just killing time and a little curious..... -Matt-

My guess is that he puts a resistor into the coolant or air temperature sensors and trys to fool the ECU into thinking the engine is cold. That way, it will run a bit richer. big deal.

Notice the seller hides the identity of the bidders. Often they get emailed criticism and insights about the product that might convince them to withdraw their bids. I saw the same thing with "electric superchargers" selling for $100 or more. It was a simple $20 bilge fan that wouldn't even move air, let alone compress it in your intake. :p

I think you are 100% correct - but it doesn't say your fuel mileage is going to get flushed also

I was just curious. I know a lot about engines, but I always like to know a little more about the function and (possible) harmony of the (miriad of )sensors/ECU set-up on these babies, and what can be done to trick them. Not that I am going to try anything like this, but it's nice to know how these things work.
