Superchips

Below are some pictures of the supposedly oem chip from a 1988 300e put in the SUPERCHIPS packaging. The person who gave it to me says that he has a SUPERCHIPS chip in his car and didn't ned the old one and so he gave it to me. Is this real or his idea of a joke?
