2.3-16V Questions

Hello! I will start out by saying that I have a problem since I bought my first Mercedes Benz and that is I am obsessed with them! I just picked up an 86 190E 2.3-16V, and looking at another one. Fun car! Going through everything I noticed a hole in the center resonator. Can I take it out, pro's/con's? Also I was going to give her a good tune up. Recommendations for cables, 8MM, brand? Air filter K&N or oem? Also the previous owner thought this car was an "el Camino." It is so low the rear camber is negative HUGE! Should I get thicker shims, purchase Height Adjustable Rear Spring Perch's, or purchase adjustable Camber Arms? All of the self-leveling system was disabled. Also does anybody know what the mechanical differences were between the euro version, and the American version? Thank you

Wink

IF the self leveling is disconnected the rear springs need to be changed to sport-line springs or the car will sit way too low!
Euro vs USA mechanical differenced depend on production date. Later Euro cars are almost the same as USA versions. ONLY early 16V engines had 10.5/1 compression ratio, however all had better cams.

Thank you for the quick response.
He had put brand new eibach springs. Wrong choice? Also what about the resonator, should I leave it or take it out? I am trying to maximize what I already have on currently my college budget. What would you suggest the first things needing attention?

I had a new exhaust installed about a year ago. If you pull the resonator and just put a straight pipe in it will be alot louder. I went through 2 till I got it quite enought for my tastes.

i have a K&N in mine. Not sure if there is a performance difference but I like the fact that it is reusable and there fore better for the environment.

2.3-16

Josh, welcome to the obesession, sounds like maybe the first thing to do is go find a good alignment shop and find out why you have so much neg. camber and if they can get it out.you can change the pads but while its up on the rack see how many bumps you have on the pads and are the front and back the same.what size tires are you running? the is a company near you called moorepowerracing.com that carry's H&R susp. parts we got a cup kit from them for my sons car seem to be good people.you may want to check out www.190revolution.net my son runs his car with no cat, no mid. muf. back to a remus muffler. we have no smog in this part of oregon. do you have to have smog checks ? Ross
