W124 upgrades
I realize it's one heck of a can of worms I'm opening here, but I recently came into possession of a 94 W124 and having always been told there are no real interesting upgrades for MB out there I wanted to know what you recommend in terms of pages to do my homework on the topic? I'm eager to learn and need to know how to poke around inside. Thanks!

there are lots of things u can do to mod ur W124 (external appearances, engine mods, suspension, brakes, interiors, u name it, u can mod it)....btw what do u have....320, 420, or 500 ?
ur best bet is to use the search feature and read on past mods.....u'll probably save time and effort by learning where others have failed :-) good and welcome to the board let us know if u have more questions Ren |

W124
it's a 1994 E320, about the only thing not completely stock (as I recall) is the interior is leather...everything else is original, but I like to tinker and improve where I can

There are a LOT of upgrades you can do. Fortunately, you have the 1994 model which already has all the neat exterior & interior updates that most of us with older models lust after. So, you can concentrate mostly on chassis/suspension mods, and some minor interior items like a Victor steering wheel , or AMG pedal covers .
You can upgrade to 500E brakes if you want, get larger sway bars in your choice of two stages, install Sportline springs, Sportline steering box, suspension bushings, fat wheels & tires, AMG body kit (not cheap), sporty muffler (AMG, Remus, etc), window tint, lower rear axle ratio for quicker takeoff, Jehnert door panels , an ASR defeat (if you have ASR), first gear start switch, and a number of other things. Search around and see what you like. Check out photos of my 124's & modifications at my website, linked below my signature... |

Well, sort of, but not really. Bekkers, BergWerks, and Performance Products all offer a variety of aftermarket goodies. But a lot of the upgrades are either factory Sportline parts you'd get from your dealer (call FastLane first though), or OE parts from other models (like putting 500E brakes on a 6-cyl car), or putting used late-model parts on an early car. Those kind of things won't be in a catalog. You need to read other people's posts on what they did and ask where they got the parts. For new stuff, try FastLane (link at top of page) or Rusty (800-741-5252). For used stuff, the main two recyclers are Potomac German (pgauto.com) and Silver Star (silverstarrecycling.com).

Check out this thread on 500E.com:
http://www.nrauto.com/sub_index.asp?makeid=Mercedes&spage=Bodykit Also, this place has plastic replicas of AMG kits: http://www.nrauto.com/sub_index.asp?makeid=Mercedes&spage=Bodykit I'd recommend the genuine AMG kit, but it will *probably* cost about $3-$4k with shipping, and will probably be cheapest to buy direct from AMG in Germany rather than through any Mercedes dealer. At least for AMG suspension parts, it's cheaper to buy direct - I assumed body kits would be the same but I haven't checked. The only other options that look decent are Lorinser, Brabus, or similar MB tuners but these guys probably quit making W124 parts a long time ago - may not be able to buy a new kit, and their prices are usually even worse than AMG! Finding this stuff used will probably require you to surf foreign auctions in Germany and Japan, and deal with the usual currency & language difficulties - not fun. HTH, |
