I have a 90 560 SEL w/120 K miles. I have gone through and changed all fulids filters, belts and EHA on fule injection. It had never been abuised by driving. However neglect was a problem. My question is how hard should the transmission shift between 1st and 2nd. The first time I checked out and went through all gears "including 1st" it would bark the tires with a 6K shift. Now 6 Mo. later it shift solid but not a hard as before. Is this somthing to worry about ? I just bought it in August and don't want to tear it up winding it out.

Any comments Please..

Thanks,

H. O. Tyler

No Mercedes should bark the tires that I am aware of. A firm, but not jerking shift should be felt.

Not to dispute the Benzmac, but *on full boil* a 500E on stock tires can trip ASR on the 1-2, 2-3, and occasionally on kickdown at various speeds. Don't know of much else that will though. Anything else in its power (or power/weight) league has more rubber on the road and/or a softer shifting tranny. Don't have enough time in 560's to say, so I'd agree with the Benzmac on that behavior being a bit strange on a 560.

Hope this helps...Lee

I have a 560SEC which barks the tires on the 1-2 shift every once in a while. I happens when the engine is cool instead of really hot. 560s don't seem to get any respect around here. With no traction control or ESP and a limited slip rear end they do a fantastic burnout and oversteer at will. In case you haven't found out yet!
