Plastic Euro Fenders?

A good friend of mine just got his hands on a Euro 94 E500, has roughly 18.6k miles on them. Same color as mine, AMG staggered wheels, etc. I've invited him to the forums, so I'll let him post the relevant details.

Anyway, when we were comparing cars, we noticed that his fenders were made of something other than sheetmetal. It seemed like plastic or other plastic-like material. I checked where it bolts up to the rest of the body and the lines were too smooth not to be OEM. Plus the paint seemed to match the rest of the body. It really seems like that's the way it came out of the factory.

Anybody here know whether there were in fact front fenders made of any other material other than sheetmetal? I'm sure weight savings are pretty decent if not substantial.

Paging Scott M. Shell...this mod seems right up your alley!

Cheers! And thanks for any input....

Part #?

I'd think that if your friend went into a dealer proposing to replace his fenders, and offering up his VIN, then he'd be able to establish if indeed there's a heretofore unknown composite fender setup on his car. I'd think getting 75 lbs off of the front axle would be quite desirable...Scott, you NEED these.....

We're trying to get to the bottom of this...although the dealers here would be of little help as they don't come across these cars too often. They were never offered here, both cars being gray market imports, and both being the only two examples extant in the country.

I'll try to get his VIN and send it say, to Phil and see what happens. Anybody know any euro dealers?

Run the VIN on this russian site. It gives a detailed account of the options on the car. It only works on Euro cars.
