I have a 2000 C280, I would like to know were is the best place to find a new or close to new 4.3 liter engine, like the E430.
I want to swap the 4.3 liter with my 2.8. I know it would probablly cost almost the same to trade in and get a 2001 C class, but i really love my car and would like to keep it. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Chris |

I would think long and hard before doing this. You are going to end up with a car that is worth less than a C280. Like you said, for the money you will have to invest you could buy a C430.

The time, money and energy is not only worth a 2001 C-class, but would cost close to $25k to do it.
Trust me if you want a 2000 C-class, trade up for a C43. At least its a tuned version of the 4.3 and has more then 25 hp more then the stock 4.3 V8. If you still want to, then start calling Junk yards with recked MBs. Here is a list: http://www.ecocar.com http://www.autobrokersintl.com http://www.benzparts.com/home.htm http://mercedesusedparts.com Be aware, most of the times, a transmission change, driveline change, etc. are all involved in changing engines. Once you get the engine and electronics sorted out (bit PITA with a MB) you still have to upgrade the rest of the drivetrain to take the extra torque the new motor will kick out. Another option would be to pick up a Lorinser or Carlsson supercharger. A kit can be installed and uninstalled, a motor swap is semi-permanent.

If Satish (www.mbcoupes.com) can put an M119 in a 560SEC with an E55 tranny, anything is possible with the right amount of funds. I guess it just does come down to how much you like your car.
