As you all might recall and earlier post about Mercedes 300E vs Cadillac Deville 89, a "misinformed" Cadillac owner said many nasty things about my mercedes and challenged me to a race. Well today he was outside and started to challenge me to a run, and I finally said yes. At that point he said it was not worth him bothering with any Nazi mobil Mercedes. He then continued to stay their and talk Sh@t about MBZ. He said that his Cadillac is a superior preformer, and that he will outhandle, out brake, and overall be better than any mercedes. I told him about AMG, Brabus etc, and he said that he will blow any of those cars away without a prob. He kept saying that he will race a E55 or CLK 55 or any AMG car and blow them away. He also said that he will out handle any of those cars. He continued to make fun of MBZ and me for driving one. He said that MBZ's go a maximum of 80 mph before they shake apart, and that at 100,000 miles (which according to him rarely any MBZ reaches) the cars must be thrown away, and that they are extremely unreliable, dangerous, are not luxirious, and "suck". He said he'd race me however he didn't want to bother becasue "MBZ sucks so much". However he "might consider a AMG model or highly tuned Mercedes" because that is the only kind that will keep up with his exhuast.

I don't know about you guys but, I was on the ground laughing so hard I almost pissed myself. I hope you guys find this amusing.

Some people are so foolish as to be dangerous. I'd keep your distance from the freak.

This guy's comments shouldn't come as a surprise...he "drives" a Cadillac. It's just an outward symbol of a general lack of automotive understanding and knowledge. The Mercedes moral is, if you don't "get it", don't buy one.

Say what you may about the Caddy-man. However, having driven the late-model STS and Deville DTS, I must say they are faster (significantly no less; you can't really go wrong w/ a big DOHC V8) and handle probably better than my 300CE (and most probably a 300E). YMMV.

Come on TonyC! I think we have run that subject into the ground: Comparing incomparable models to one another! Your talking comparing a late model V-8 to an early model V-6. I can't understand the persistence of people to race Porsches against air cooled Volkswagens and use that as a valid argument. Next we'll see a race against a helicopter and a mountain bike... jeez.
Lets run an STS against the proper MBZ: An E55. Since the STS is Cadillac’s version of an E55, it's a fair and silly race. You cannot come back and argue a stock E430 because it is not supposed to be a high performance model. It's an E with a V-8. Since I know that a 1999 Corvette will roast an STS like a red headed step child, you can be darn sure that the E55 is going to beat the STS even if the MBZ raced in reverse! I have the article showing the E55 in pix and on paper eating the DOHC Vette all the way through the quarter with a SOHC 4-door family MBZ. But even if you want to compare an E430 stock here you go.
Real World (not fantasy)
MBZ 0-60 6.4 Seconds Caddie STS 6.9
Drag Coefficient- MBZ .29 Caddie .31
Weight- MBZ is 600 pounds lighter
Skid Pad- MBZ .83 Caddie .80 (duh!)
Top Speed- MBZ 150mph (computer limited) Caddie 135 (computer limited)
Quarter Mile- MBZ 15.6 Caddie 16 seconds
So uh… Lets see, does the 2001 Caddie beat ANY 2001 V-8 MBZ E class? No.
How much is a Caddie worth the minute you drive off the lot? A can of fishing worms. MBZ? About 2 grand less than the purchase price.
As for the Captain here, it sounds to me like that guy is a Democrat. He'll say absolutely anything the opposite of you, just to say it. You can't argue with someone who eats crack for breakfast. Print out the Caddie specs on his car and give it to him. Or go to the Caddie dealership and have a mechanic print the spec sheet and stick it under your neighbor’s windshield wipers along with a free lobotomy offer. The guy is sick in the head.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Thats hilarious.

The guy must have never been to europe in his life.

He'd see taxies there, Mercedes BTW, with 500,000 Miles on them plus, with original engine and tranny, not rebuilt, having only had meticulous oil and other fluid changes consistantly.

No way that caddy is still on the road, and if ya do find a nice early example of a caddy, 59, 62, etc etc, it is most likely the car has been fully restored and rebuilt.

I think most old american muscle cars are restored. you don't often find a nice original example with low miles that doesnt need something.

if I remember correctly it was an 89 deville? That POS couldn't even touch a benz as far as reliability, ride, handling, speed, and solidity.

its time to put this guy to bed and show him that he's full of BS.

You See, He is very very stupid. So he doesn't understand what I tried once before explaining to him. California Benz has found the best solution to Caddi mans "disabilities", which is geting him a labotomy. I really ignored his stupid, retarded comments, its just that I found this very funny and knew you guys would to. When I printed out what you guys wrote, and I wrote he said that just might bother beating the pants of a CLK 55. WHAT A SHMUCK, but he has gotten me some laughs.

This guy is what makes me hate american cars. If this guy seriously believes what he says, he is one of the most insane, naive automobile owners in the United States of America. If you talk to him again, you ought to ask him what he thinks of Porsche and Ferrari. I am sure that '89 POS DeVille can take those....what an idiot!

Difference between Stupidity and Ignorance?

The difference between stupidity and ignorance is that ignorance is curable. Sounds like this guy is hopelessly stupid. What outrageous misstatements! I hate to admit it but my anger is greater than my amusement.
There may be cars that outperform the Benz, but an '89 Caddie Deville is not one of them. It's overweight, undersprung and poorly balanced. The front end will plow like a snow plow. Although the STS is pretty nice, I prefer the engineering, quality and feel of a Mercedes. One should, as they are significantly more expensive (V8 to V8). I feel the Deville is comparable to the S class for size and V8 power. Compare a 300E to the Caddy Cetera HAHAHA...
But since the guy is stupid, you cannot change his mind. If the facts don't do it, what will? Another old saying for you to use (if he won't knife, shoot or beat you up for it): You can't teach a pig to sing, it only wastes your time and irritates the pig. Good luck.

GM Haters?

I hope we are not GM haters on this Forum. I drove the fastest cadillac, the STS, and it is a real runner. It aint no E55, but it will hold its own with the rest of the Mercedes line for Performance. The problem with the cadillac for me is that it is not even close to as good looking as other cars in that price range. One of these days, and that cadillac race car http://detnews.com/pix/1999/9903/09/caddy1.jpg tells me that day is soon, Cadillac will be competing with Mercedes for the best, truly available and affordable, car you can buy. I want one of these cadillacs right now, doors or not.

Not hating GM

Just a quick note to say I do not hate GM or Ford. I have had both and my daily driver is a Pontiac Bonniville SSE. It is nice, but nothing like a Benz. Not nearly as solid. I prefer the feel of a Mercedes. The cost is so much less that I have trouble justifying a S class to have the same size car as the Bonniville. I would like an old 300SE instead but ...
This thread is about performance and the Caddies do not perform as well as the Mercedes. That is all. Perhaps in the future they will.
