Hey, Im about to get the Remus Sport Muffler for my 300E and I have been hearing that if you take out the resonator it sounds a lot better. I went to a Tuffy Muffler place, or some place like that, and they said No. They said it wouldnt have any backpressure. Im just wondering who is right on this topic. Im turning 18 on Monday, so Im sure you can imagine that I dont care if its loud. Sure I dont want it to sound like a Mustang but I know that it wouldnt sound like that with a straight pipe instead of a resonator. If Anyone knows anything please let me know.

thanks a lot,
Drew

Hmmm...never had any experience removing the resonator. I remember how my 91 300E sounded for a day or two when the rear muffler got ripped off. (debris off a truck in front of me) Not very loud except a bit boomy around 2-3K rpm. If your after noise, then the Remus should do just fine. You are not going to gain any horsepower/performance off of it and you may actually hurt performance by mucking around with exhaust. My understanding of exhaust flow is that volume (of gases) gives you horsepower and velocity of said gases gives you torque. A bigger pipe might improve top end (if the rest of the motor/car were modded first) but should hurt "off the line" performance. For a demonstration of this principal try blowing through a drinking straw and a toilet paper roll. BTW it never will sound like a Mustang or Camaro, as it has a SOHC inline six cylynder not a pushrod V8.

Good Luck...Lee

Since the catalyst cuts the noise level a lot, you still should be able to hear the stereo with the resonator removed. I'm sure the local police will notify you if it's too loud, should pick up a few HP!

So the backpressure BS wont make a difference? As long as I dont lose a noticeable amount of power and my car starts up, im all good. Any other things I should worry about when I take the resonator out?? thanks
