Have a 1990 190E 2.6, center resonator removed, Remus muffler. Would "gutting" or removing cats give any real performance gains?

Thanks

You would gain performance but likely flunk emissions and noise regs in your area. Instead of gutting them try a racing style bypass system.

Hope this helps...Lee

the resonator removal is a good idea...gets rid of 50 lbs. then a hi-po rear muffler...try remus or supersprint. I would not gut your factory cat...its illegal 5000.00 fine, the stuff inside is toxic, and when you need to pass smog your up a creek. If you are hell bent on dumping the cat...buy a set of aftermarket downpipes and cat (about 300.00) and get rid of that cat and put a random tech cat on the car. Keep the factory cat and downpipes... just my opinion. PS: removing the cat will create the largest noise increase (sig.) the resonator hardly does squat.

Damn
I'm really disappointed.
I saw the subject of this thread and thought someone had discovered a way to keep cats from jumping on the hood of a Mercedes and leaving paw prints everywhere.
...guess I should have know better since this isn't the detailing forum.

Bill,

When they track on my hood, I don't bother gutting them, I just throw their bodies in the river.

If a farmer had 4 crates with 9 bags each, 6 cats to a bag.....how many would he have if he lived near a river? j/k

...and a train left Chicago at 7:00pm heading towards...j/k

Only solution for cat-hood I know if is electrify the hood (not recommended) or place a nice soft blanket on the ground next to the car so the cat goes for the blanket instead of the hood. Haven't tried hanging one (gutted cat) from the antenna (sail cat?...biodegradeable windsock?) yet but I might have some extra DIY time this weekend.

J/K....Lee
