Carbon Fiber parts for your Benz

I've been interested in CF/glass/kevlar for a year now, and stumbled over the 'CF hood' thread(s) on 190 revolution about a month ago. I just got some samples and am ready to put in an order to the manufacturer for some resin and CF. Now all i need is some ideas from you guys of what parts to make.

Airboxes? Spoilers? Interior trim? C-pillar vents? Valve covers? Engine trim? Trunk lids? Grill surrounds? Shifter-knobs? What do you guys want made-it all depends on the level of interest/pre orders you can get going.

If there is enough interest, i'll make a prototype of the part. If you guys like the looks, and i get enough pre-orders to cover my butt financially, i'll make a run of the parts.

This will be a hobby for me, so i'm not going to be interested in making el-cheapo parts, on the other hand, if you guys decide you want a 16v hood done...well, its gonna cost you.

Moderators- Leave a link in this forum to get interest up, I'll move any further correspondance about prices and such to the sales/group buy forum.

cheers,
dan r.

Hood and trunk for 190 8v would be nice. Maybe some interior parts.

I think a good selling item would be carbon fiber interior appointments. if you could remake the interior wood trim in benzes out of carbon fiber without overlaying on top of the existing wood, which would have to be milled down so it did not end up being thicker than the original wood, you would probably have a good amount of people wanting to do it.

I plan on doing it myself when I can find some time to buy the carbon kevlar hybrid fabric I want to use and the resins. I am already able to do some things with fiberglass, so I figure carbin fiber wont be too hard to pick up as a hobby.

But I only plan on doing ti for myself. I have some ideas, but nothing I could have someone else do because it involves my creative mind to get it done.. and well I just like messing around with stuff like that.

Good luck, keep us informed.

I kind of would like to see engine dressing up with carbon fiber.

airboxes you gotta be careful with, as the factory designed them to specific specs, unless you were say to take an aftermnakret tuner intake designed and proven with gains and redo it out of CF.

i want to build parts for my w123 interior...i was going to mess around with the press pots and autoclaves....but if you could do it for about the price of me learning (i did built my body kit out of FG) and materials (not too bad around the net)...id think about it - could be done...but i am also thinking about machining out aluminum....i highly doubt anyone else would really want CF interior parts for the w123 so it might not be worth it to you to make the blanks...and i am running into problems as to how to get around the HVAC control illumination, at least with the aluminum i can CNC out the logos with a 1/64 1/32 bit and illumitate through the "holes" - could then fill them with crystal clear resin and refinish the face...hhhhmmmm....

anyway - good luck, sounds fun!

I agree with the interior parts suggestion. I know I'd buy a set for a CLK 430 and my bro's would buy one for a 300E and one for a 300CE

I've never been a huge fan of BMW's but boy did they ruin what used to be a great looking cars. They ruined the Z4 too.

Jack Glass Custom Carbon Fiber

Thanks for all the ideas guys. This will be a hobby for me too, I would be surprised if i did anything but break even for a year or so. I posted to 3-4 other boards, and the interior stuff looks like the most popular, nor surprisingly for the 190e, C and Clk classes. The two items i'm most interested are the engine dress-up kit and the fenders, so we'll see what gets made first

Check out my page at Jack Glass Custom Carbon Fiber . Any further requests can be submitted directly to me through the site, and i'm also setting up an e-mail list to keep people update. Go ahead and register because this will be the best way to keep current on what i'm making!

cheers,
dan

Hi all,

The survey is complete and the list of parts that will go into production by spring is on the new webpage in the 'news' section'. Always looking for new ideas though!

If you haven't signed up for the e-mail list, better do it soon!
