Performance Products W124 shift knob adaptor.
Hey guys,
I just ordered the shift adaptor from Performance Products for my 1989 300E... the part number to type in on the website is... SK-33124 This part allows you to attach almost any newer MB shift knob.. and some aftermarket ones as well. The cost is $25.00 Seems to be a 560SEL part that can be retrofitted to the older (85 to 92)W124 chasis...

Sweet! Can you post a photo? I've been wondering where I could snag one of those! Any idea what the OE part number is and/or what exact models/years it came from? 1990 560SEL perhaps??

I believe he means that the aftermarket adapter was initially intended for 560sel owners who wanted to change their stuck-on oem shift knobs but it can be used on a W124.

They changed the price. Mine only cost me $15.00 when I got it a few years ago.
I picked it up in person since they are local to me. Alon

Is this the type that screws in, same as unscrewing the old 1-pc knob? Or is it the type where you have to take apart the lower fork thingy to install the aftermarket shaft?

Its exactly the same as the one-piece unit without the knob of course. You just screw it in, its pretty easy.

Cool. That's what I want. I actually have one now that I bought from a guy 3 years ago, but he bought it in Japan, and had no idea how to get another one. I found an OEM solution using an early W202 shaft but it's not a simple screw-in. I have a couple of knobs now that I like ok, but I'd trade one for a G500 knob (which is black leather with walnut wood and a 'V8' logo up top - mmmm.)

and then after that, you have to put a v8 engine in to match the shifter!

Yeesh! Yeah, that would probaly cost like $20,000 right? maybe more or less?
I know some sicko that put a v8 mercedes engine into his 1998-97? c-class car, it is sleeper! (Sleeper - car that appears very subtle and unchallenging until you hand over the title for your car! ) He had it done by some kind of customizing shop, I have no idea what he paid!!! Crazy rich people!!!! I still have dreams of a Delorean, I have always wanted one, but I would need to replace that Peugot-Volvo-Renault engine with something else..... sigh, maybe one day.....
