No wave?

On my way to Sacramento from the Bay Area Saturday, I spotted a 500E in my mirror, smoke silver, a color pretty close to mine (E500 anthracite). I told my kids in the back seat that a 500E was right behind us, and they were as excited as I was. I slowed down and moved over a lane to allow this driver to come up beside me. As he went by I waved, saying hello to a fellow 500E/E500 owner. He didn't bother to look over. My kids (and I) were rather disappointed. I consider the car to be fairly rare and special, and expected fellow owners to recognize a "member" with a wave or at least a smile. What do you think? Is this no longer done? Out of fashion? I hope not!

(I remember as a kid myself, in the passenger seat of my father's Corvettes from the '60s and '70s, how other Corvette drivers would wave to each other on the road. What a wonderful feeling, I would think, to be part of that special "club" of enthusiasts.)

P.S. I checked to make sure I was indeed in my E500, not the 300E, which would have been rather embarrassing, wouldn't it?

A hearty Welcome Bob-

....sounds like an isolated incident with an owner that had too much on their mind at the time.....I've not encountered another 500e/e500 while driving yet, but I received at least 3- 500e/e500 owners introducing themselves when I've returned to my parked car so far

not to fret though, hopefully all the SF Bay Area Mercedesshop 500e/e500 owners and Hot Rods, and vast number of other MBs can manage to do a get together before the wintertime for a shine and show and java and chat...

have you shared your e500 info here on this thread?, if not, please do

PS- saw an '94 E500 this evening Black Pearl on Black with huge 18" staggered polished aluminum multi-piece AMGs, dropped super low, S600 Grill, clear corners and rears too, wood-leather wheel, limo tint in Milpitas-CA , plate read something like "911E" of "E911"..didn't get a chance to chat with the owner though

Bob,

I have only seen three others, two incidents we took the opportunity to stop & chat about the cars, the third incident was an E60 who simply played a little cat & mouse game with me and then we chatted briefly at the stop light in the next town.

All were very friendly experiences. As for the kids, my 11 & 12 year olds would have been pinned against the window screaming at their mother to look it and how critical it was that she stop and call Raleigh and tell Grand Dad (he drives an E-55). Mom, needless to say, would be totally disinterested.

She says she sees little or no difference between HER 300E and MY 500E. To which, I say fine, then you have no need to drive MY CAR!!

Needless to say, I have to beleive what you experienced was indeed an isolated incident.

Buzz through the Carolinas, we'll wave!

I know everyone is tired of me asking, but the last two photos have prompted me again to ask,
How do I post a photo
Either as an attachment to a response
Or as an attachment to my signature

Whichever is easier... Given that I have limited internet skills.

I feel like Steve Martin wanting to see his name in the phone book.... Sorry, I know that grade B movie goes way back, but it was funny at the time.

Right click on a photo that is on the web (it can't be on your hard drive. You can upload images to, say, www.imagestation.com if you need to)

choose properties

highlight the address (it is among the various info on the properties tab)

copy it

to post the picture, post that same address and put an "" after the address.

Knock yourself out! And show us some pics of your car!!!

another isolated incident

I've only seen one other 500E on the road while I was in mine. I was in morning bumper to bumper traffic on Atlanta's perimeter and it was lightly raining. This is six lanes of stop-n-go, for those of you not familiar with Atlanta. I look coming up beside me and there is a young business-attired man in his Pearl Black 500E. We were close to each other for a couple of miles and he never looked over and I never got his attention.

I must give him the benefit of the doubt, though. I looked at his knuckles on the wheel and then at mine and they were all the same ghostly white! I could see him often checking his rearview mirror as I was. Of course we were not overly concerned with OUR brakes, but I assume he was praying just as hard as I was that no one was going to slide into the back of our rides!

500E Photos

Rainmaker,
Despite all your guidance, I still botched this up for an hour and a half. Just when I was about to give up, it worked.

As I said before, I am severely technologically handicapped.

I viewed your album, it is incredible.

How do I add a link to my album, etc.

Thanks for all the help.

To link to your album....

- first you must have an album online (say, for example at imagestation, it can't be on your hard disk)
- go to the first page of your album
- copy the URL
- Past the URL on a message
- Voila! The board will automatically add a "" and "" before and after your URL to make it clickable.

Hope that helps

500E Owner Roll Call Update

As posted in another thread earlier, I have taken ownership of Mark Herzig's 92 500E in Pearl Black with Parchment interior.

The following pics taken recently along with the 911 track car:
