Hi,

I just bought the Eibach Pro Kit from Tire Rack and tried to get them installed this weekend, but the install shop said that the rear springs are not the correct ones from the kit.

After talking to Eibach directly, one of their "engineers" told me that the 2552-140 kit (pro kit) will work on the 2000 SLK230. The only thing they are not sure about is the SLK320, which has a different suspension.

The install shop (Intercrew in Richardson, TX) said that the rear springs on my car was only 7 rings and the one from the kit had 10 rings. Installing these rear springs from the pro kit would raise the car several inches in the rear.

It could be a packaging error, or it could be true. Does anyone know differently? Or better yet, does anyone know if H&R or any other spring manufacturer sells springs that fit the 2000 SLK230?

Thanks a lot, I am calling Eibach as soon as they open this morning, I will post results here.

Thank you!

Jay Huang

Yes, I have called Tire Rack. They asked me to call Eibach. Which I did. The tech at Eibach told me that the install shop I went to was mistaken and swears up and down that the springs I have indeed will fit my car.

I don't know who to believe now.

JUST BECAUSE THERE ARE LESS COILS IN THE SPRING DOSENT REALLY MEAN ANYTHING THE MAIN THING IS THE SPRING RATE IE A VARIABLE SPRING WILL HAVE MORE COILS IT ALL DEPENDS ON HOW THE SPRING WAS DESIGNED I BELEIVE THE MECHANIC IS MISTAKEN I WOULD CHECK WITH SOME PLACE ELSE SPRING TENSION CAN BE MEASURED ON A STAND WITH THE CORRECT EQUIP.

Try measuring the heights of both coils side by side. A progresive spring should be shorter than the stock spring. The number of coils on the spring doesnt detemine height.
