In progress - brakes next, then stereo, then rims, then ...! (and if I had used a larger font, the license plate logo for MercedesShop would have been easier to see )

Yes the tag is from Boblingen. Got it from there because I know that is where the Benz factory is. Using clear bulbs and Bosch OE Eurolamps.

JCE, your car looks almost exactly like mine. Only I have different rims. Did you paint your bumpers and etc. They look really good. I use back to black on mine and they look good however not as nice as yours.

CaptAlex300E:

I didn't use paint on the bumpers, they have just slowly gotten darker with applications of Mother's Back to Black. They were so dull and grey when I first got the car that I thought about paint, but didn't want to mess with rock chips, waxing the bumpers, etc. Just plain easier to slather on B2B every other car wash.

There are sure are some nice looking cars on this post!!!

Where can I find B2B?

Hi,

I want to post pictures of my car as soon I get it back from some body work - I'm having a custom cold air intake put in and cross drilled rotors as well. Anyhow, my car have black pieces on the bottom of the bumpers and black side skirts. I would like to get them painted, but I thought its not worth it and might look funny and they would chip. Anyhow, I'm always irritated because they don't look shiny in bright sunlight. Would B2B work on them? If so, where can I find it and how long does it last?

Thanks,
Troy

John - I've gotta say, you've got the nicest example of a smoke silver benz I've ever seen anywhere. I've seen a couple of 300E's that color, and I've never liked it until now.

Don't know how much longer I'll have webspace at this account, but until it goes away, here are a couple of pictures of mine.

Thanks for the compliment on the color! I was looking for reasons to not wax the car this weekend, so now I can wait another month. That is a great sunset (sunrise?) pic of your car, which is the color I would have chosen for myself if I had been able to make a color choice.
I didn't like Smoke Silver very much either until after I applied Lee's Detail FAQ from the DIY tab, above. I was amazed at how much the color and appearance changed after doing that technique twice in 8 months. I think the wax method makes the car so reflective that the Smoke Silver takes on a lot more of the colors in it's surroundings.
If you look at this cars pics under the Sportline Section of the Cars tab, above, you can see how much worse this same car looked before it was waxed with Lee's method.
Take care!

Troydewan:
I got B2B from Autozone, but Pep boys carries it at some stores as well. My bumpers were pretty dull grey until Lee told me about this stuff.

I hope Lee comes back soon.....

Judging from the pic, it looks like Pearl Grey..:p

P.S. JCE, remind me to put my shades on next time before you post the pics....they are "shiny"!!! :p Great looking W124 you have there!!! One of the best I have seen so far...

JCE,

Thanks for the compliment on the picture! I took it at sunset, somewhere between Sacramento and Auburn.

I think you're right about the detailing method, my car tends to take on a blue tint (from the sky?) after I've given it an afternoon of polishing and waxing. It's amazing what that gloss can do for the appeal of a particular color.

I want to say that my car is Diamond Grey, but I haven't been able to find any reference to that color anywhere. I think Andy might be right about it being Pearl Grey (especially since his 400SE looks to be the exact same color ). For a long time I thought I had a pretty unique car/color combination, but in the past year I've seen a few 300E/D's around my area that look exactly like mine. (Where did they come from??)

Here's pictures of my customize 87 300e. I'll try to put up pictures of the "y" pipe soon. I really need a front spoiler for this car.

Akry:

Thanks for the compliment on my 124! I had somehow missed your great looking S class pics on page 1 - Your car has a body style that has aged very well. When they first came out I didn't care for the look that much, and called them "tiger tanks" (to me they looked like the WWII 'hunting tiger' tank without the gun tube and treads). However, the design has really grown on me, now that all the new cars look like they have started to melt! But then, I didn't like the look of the 124 body style when it first came out either. How has the car been for you in the reliability/maintenance departments?
Regards,

anthonyb,

Pearl Grey is a very unique color itself. It's different color from Moonstone Grey on late MBs. Pearl Grey was cesed in the late 1993(same time MB change their designation).

JCE,

W140 is a very reliable car if taken with great care. But it's NOT meant to be a garage queen either. I have seen alot of garaged W140 with condition worse than those with 100K on them.

As for problems, 1992-1994 has steering shimmy problem(which is address under warranty on mine), Evap Core(which hasn't happened to me, yet...fingers crossed), Door Close Assist Pump(which I already have the 3rd set on mine, and it's acting up again..), and dashboard short-out(replaced mine, too). But late model year W140s are very well build, and have pretty much all the bugs worked out. Therefore, I alwsy recommend ppl who are in the market of a used W140 to go for 1997+ W140.

I have post some info about W140s. Do a search and type in "W140" or "S-Class". Hope it helps....

Andy Kuo

What a great looking classic! How long have you owned it? How do you clean that metal egg-crate grill (Aluminum, isn't it?)?
