I saw this on E-bay, and E-mailed the guy. he says it will work, and I can get it for like $100.

Out of all the different brands out there, do you guys recommend other brands or no name like this one?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=531974244&r=0&t=0&showTutorial=0&ed=977965613&indexURL=0&rd=1

I Don't want to put it on the car if it will mess anything up, but at the price I see, it just might be worth it thought it may not last long.

Otherwise, which is the nicest, as far as look and sound.

I'm not looking to get loud, just deeper and throatier without being much louder.

Is Remus/Borla/AMG/Lorinser/Braubus/Carlson/Renntech all about the same apart from sound?

I'm not looking to add power here just look and sound. I'd replace my pipes with new tips if I could get just the look.

If I gain performance, even just a little, its not a major concern, rather a bonus.

Thanks for your opinions on this, I am looking to maybe do my exhaust. If you guys think that one on Ebay looks like a good deal, I will pick it up and let you guys know what I think.

If I can spend just a bit more and get much better quality, then I might do that.

Thanks,

Alon

I use the exact same style muffler on my 300CE:
http://www.nakayamaracingsports.com/UNIVERSALMUFFLERS.html
Model # 3610. Nakayama's products are all made in Japan, I'd confirm the one being offered via ebay is Made in Japan.

The muffler can's too long and required trimming 2" x 5" off the lower bumper valence. The sound's deep and aggressive and can be significantly louder if you remove the resonator as well. The power gain, if any, is not significant. YMMV.

Ashman 12-27-2000 07:54 PM

Tony do you have a pic of it on your car? I would like to see it.

Also when you say trimming of the bumper valance you mean for the tips or for the large can part.

I wasn't looking into having to trim anything, I kind of wanted the tips to be what you see not the muffler part.

Thanks,

Alon

for pix: http://www.tsj-freight.com/jpg/thchen/cars/
| 300CE | Exhaust .
Had to trim the lower bumper a lil due to the fact that the tip is straight on the Nakayama while the stock muffler's tips (if you can call it that) are pre-bent to fit the stock cut. YMMV & good luck.

Alon,

Have you looked at the supersprint exhausts yet?

Thanks, I'm looking into that to see what its all about ...

I havent made the decision to buy, Still researching and looking for a few criteria...

1. Good looking tips.
2. Deeper throatier sound without being very loud.
3. Decent price that won't break the bank.. hehe

The Remus Exhaust's are nice, and even give (according to the brochure) 10-15% more power. http://www.************************ Hope this helps, a little expensive though at 400$.

TonyC 12-28-2000 09:30 PM

Uhhm.. Supersprint and Remus. How mundane; I'm sure Alon has already researched the stereotypical exhausts out. And if Remus 'catback' can lay down 10-15% more HP (217 * .15 = 32.55. YAH RIGHT!), I'd give them my first born then my left nut. FWIW - my exhaust cost me $250 out the door.

Ashman 12-28-2000 11:10 PM

If you noticed I didn't put performance, not concerned with getting a gain from it. if they say 10-15% then I figure thats more like 2 - 5%...

Don't get mad at me, all I did was quote the brochure. Whatever thay want to say let them do so. :) I would just get tips for my exhaust.

Ashman 12-29-2000 02:18 AM

if you find just tips that look like the AMG Style etc, I'd do that too. But I havent found Just tips. :) hehe

TonyC,

You mentioned above that you have a Nakayama Racing muffler on your 300CE. I looked at the pics and it looks pretty nice. What kind of sound does it give you because I am not interested in that hollow Japanese car sound. Does it sound very loud at highway speeds, and will it annoy me after a while? I'm looking for a mild, deeper growl but nothing crazy and annoying. Also, where did you purchase it? I have visited the Official Nakayama Racing Webpage but you can't place orders through them and they don't list dealers. How much was it? Any help would be appreciated. If there are other people out there that can answer these questions, please feel free to. Thanks.

Jeff,
Look inside Sport Compact Car magazine. I'd seen them in some of their ads.

TonyC 02-06-2001 01:12 AM

Jeff,
the sound is very deep. Very throaty. the Nakayama mufflers are well packed for sound insulation. I bought it directly from Nakayama and I know one of the shipping ladies at the company. If you need one, I can pbly have them ship one out to you wherever you are. The cost should be around $180-200.

Becareful guys...
a muffler or rear silencer not turned for a specific car many instances reduce too much back pressure thereby reducing power (HP/torque).

this is the dilemna i am facing now with my CLK430. i want to do a cat back system but i can't confirm either way if it i will help or hinder. i get opposing stories all the time...
