What are the impressions of this car. I can get one (and most likely will) for 27,000 grand. With 65,000 miles on the clock and in great, great condition. What are the general impressions of the car. I love the power :) and the car is very solid. What is the 0-60 on it and did the 97 model year have the driver adaptive tranny? I never had a MBZ V-8, and if taken car of, will it last and is it reliable. Also does it get terrible gas milage, like 9-12 mpg around town.

This model was a 1 year effort. One of the best cars I've driven!! Great mileage 15 around town with ME & over 20 with my wife driving. Had a DEMO for 1 month! The only thing to watch for is TRANSMISSION! Fluid change is $200 but trans is $3000-4000. Look at production date as many of these were early 1996. I would thing about a extended warranty!

Is the tranny of that year the new driver adaptive one? Also could I get the car starmarked, even though its not coming from a MBZ dealer. I checked the production date, and its a 97, tell me about the tranny, where their any problems with it.

The 1996 & later V-8's all have this ADAPTIVE trans. A lot of early cars did have trans problems, not from hard driving! Like I said a lot of the 1997 E420 were made in 1996 as this car went on sale in Mrch 1996. These are the ones with trans problems. STARMARK is a good idea$$$.

Congrats on finding a 97 E420 for under 30k!

Have driven many of them; they are great cars, have pretty good handling although you may find that your 300E handles a little better in hard driving.

BTW, My 500 is now gone and I have gotten a 1991 560SEC instead. Always looking for good deals in Philly/NJ area.
