Has anyone tried replacing their '92 or '93 500E tail light with the '94 one? If so, is it a straight swap or are mods required? I want to get rid of all the amber plastic.
Thanks

It should be straight swap with min/no mods. Why don't you try those All Black from precisionauto?? They should look very good....

Put it this way, I replaced my 91 300CE taillight with a 94 taillight for the smoked effect. Looks great. Straight swap.

Only problem was getting hold of an amber bulb without offset pins. (The 94 bulb holders are different). Got one from Ford off a Mondeo (Taurus).

Then again, this may be a Euro thing only...

Brian, I know what you mean mate but here's a nice tip: what I did was carefully file down one pin. Now I have a nice set of grey/red lights and the amber turn bulbs work fine and hold well held in by one pin.

Hey...just wondered if you did the upgrade. I'm looking for some red/smoke rear lenses off a 500E to update my 300E.

Sorry but I haven't got around to doing the swap. I'm waiting to swap all my blinkers and painting over my black bumpers at the same time. I thank everyone for their reply. I examined the rear light cover and it should be pretty easy.

Well...if you do get around to it let me know. I would be interested in the plastic you are taking off your car. I already bot one set from ebay, but they were cracked, and I didn't want to risk moisture getting in. So..let me know if you want them to find a new home after you yank them out.

Sorry ss (slotjocko), but when I do swap my light lenses...I intent on keeping all OEM parts so that I can restore it to "stock". Try JCE (posted in Hot-Rods") whose friend's 500 is a write-off with front end damage. Maybe the back light is okay for salvage (why waste).

Thanx for the clarification, and I will give JCE a try. Good luck.
