I have an '87 300E.Can you tell me where to fing information on a performance chip that is made in California(?)--its supposed to give increased horsepower.Do you know how much extra horsepower?Where can i find this chip and how much does it cost? Also, I saw a crankshaft in a Performance Products catalogue made by Shrick of Germany that is supposed to increase horsepower by 12-15.Would the chip increase the horsepower even further if used with the crankshaft? How much more horsepower would be generated in total?

No0t much you can do to increase performance in your car. I have one and researched all the possibilities. The Cam gives more upperend torque and horsepower, and the 300E M103 engine does not have much bottom end torque in the first place. The Cam will give you better top end performance however less bottom end performance. Add a exhaust, headers, and increase the gap on your spark plugs. If you really want a kick in the pants though, get Mosselman turbo's. There is a link provided by Clinton, to that web site. It increases power from 177 to 292. The 300E is a fast car, however on second gear start hampers its ability to get off the line fast. To compensate manual shift. I have defeated a Audi A4 2.8 (1999) with my 13 year old Benz. On the highway the 300E will eat up most cars, except for the BMW's and other high performance cars. Personally I'm currently upgrading to a different MBZ, maybe a 97 E420 or a 94 or 95 E320 which would get twin turbo's. Good luck and Love that 300E its the best all around 4 sedan ever built.
