mbdoc,
you've posted an entry sometime back on having upgraded 190e brakes to those used on the 400e. aside from the calipers and rotors (of course, brake pads), is there anything else that needs to be changed on my 190e2.6? How about the part that the caliper bolts on to? is it feasible to do the fronts first, then the rear units, or do you recommend that both ends be upgraded at the same time? It's just because my rear disks are still new. thanks |

On the cars that I have done it was front only! The 400E calipers bolt directly to spindle, not to adaptor that the 190 bolts to.

The member AlainV has these brakes on the 190e racecar. You might email him. The dust guards on a stock 190e are too small...they also should be replaced. There is some question about using the 400e master cylinder. Braided brake lines are up to you...some swear by them some swear at them. The 400e takes the same pads as the 500 E but has a 295 mm/ disc. The original 500 E had 300mm/rotors.

I was interested in the upgrade, cause my car was recently in a small accident, my left rear door was taken out by a guy making an illegal u-turn. So he scuffed up the rear wheel, and a new wheel costs $235 or something. I was wondering if I got the upgrade on my front brakes to the 400E brakes, would the 15x7 Luke from TireRack has, the OE Multi-Spoke wheels for $35 each fit on them, i need something for the winter months. I have 16" CLK rims froma 2000 CLK430, the nice 7-spoke design, and plan on using 225/45/16 with the second lowest pads on my car and the fenders rolled. Think i should have a problem? The biggest thing is the brakes, i wanna get them done, and wanted a rough estimate, i let lee know, but he said they don't quite have a kit ready. Anybody got any ideas?

Installing 400e front brakes on a 190 is as easy as replacing the stock rotors. The parts you will need are the 400e rotors, calipers, pads, (and dust shields if you want them for a street car).
You simply remove the original parts and bolt on the 400e calipers to the front spindle in the same location that the stock 190 caliper bracket was mounted to. ------------------ |

I got no problem stopping my 190E 2.6, I need to find a way way to get the car to accelerate faster, then I'll worry about stopping it.

i see the value of upgraded brakes on the highway, when i am banzai-driving on the passing lane and some left-lane bandit suddenly, mindlessly, moves into the lane. While the stock brakes are adequate, i need a quicker, firmer, more reassuring bite.
i also late-brake into corners (or left-turn lights) whenever i get the opportunity ... now, the next thing would be to get stickier rubber ... |

So basically all I need is the rotors, calipers, and pads. Do I still need to worry about getting different 15" wheels then the stock 15x6 that come on the 190E 2.6, or will they work also (since they are only for the wintewr time.) If so, I have the dust sheilds in them, would that cause any problems. Thanxs alot guys for the help.

i asked the benz service rep if they will do the 400e brake upgrade for me for my next brake service, and the guy said no - they only do service "authorized" by benz.
does anyone know were in toronto, canada i can have have the upgrade done? if i have it done (or do it myself), will Benz refuse to service my brakes in the future? |

What year and model should I be looking for as a replacement for the front brakes. I saw different rotors for:
92 400E w124 v8 93 400E w124 v8 94-95 E420 w124 v8 so which one to use? Is it safe to assume that the 94-95 E420 were probably better. But I need to make sure that 15" wheels will still fit on them for the winter time. Any help, appreciate it. Also, I talked to my MB dealer, they said they will replace the pads and stuff, but will not perform such a service. If I do the w124 V8 brake upgrade, there work will not be warrrantied (the usual 6 month warranty) but there work is good, so I m not worried about it. BEsides, I am thinking of using Porterfield Brakes for the parts (kevlar brakes, cross drilled rotors, etc.) ------------------ Chirag (Charlie) Patel - 99 Mercedes-Benz ML 430 V8 w/custom TV, Video, UHF, speaker system - 93 190E 2.6 (4-sale) w/ an amp, equalizer, and CD-changer, integrated w. stock stereo for integrated cellular phone speaker system - had a 93 190E m103 3.2, 5-speed trans, - had a 88 300E 2.6 - had a 84 300TD w/275k+ miles - 2002 S500/S600 - Maybe in a little more then a year |
