BLACK OR WHITE

I was just wondering what your opinions would be for a CLK, I ordered mine in white but many people around my area said to get black because its a benz and its a more prestigious color, but I think taking care of a black car is a pain because of the towel scrathes and as soon as you wash your car, 2 hours later there is a coating of dust/dirt on it. I know this because I have a LX470 in black and that is a pain to keep clean. However white looks sooo much better at night!!

White makes the car look larger, is easier to see at night, doesn't show scratches as easily, and (I am told) was the original MB factory team racing color. So many black cars out there that the white is a nice change. IMHO

Have you ever considered silver? As JCE noted, white is the official racing colour of the Germans, but M-B stripped one of their cars of the white paint in order to meet the weight limit in one of the races, and ever since then, M-B's have raced in silver. I personally like black. Yes, it is a pain to keep, but a black car simply brings in a different "tone" when you see it. I like silver also too...both with black interiors...that has always been my preference, but buy what you want! After all, it is YOU who is putting the money on the table, not them, or me, or anybody else on this forum! If YOU don't like it, but everybody else does, then there is no point right???

Yeah your right but it was on on going battle in my head, one day I wanted black, another day I wanted white, I was going crazy, but then I just sat down and weighed out the pros and cons of each color and white was my choice because white is easier to maintain, which I really want is ease of maintance, I already have a black SUV and let me tell you that it is a ***** to keep clean. So I guess white is a go, and you know you are right it is my money and my car and its what I think of it, I just can not wait any longer for the car to come in. Its been a long six months... and 1 more to go....

Oh and the reason why I did not want a silver clk is because they are so common in the NY area, atleast 7 out of the 10 clk's I see are silver. I needed a different look.

Grapes,

Silver is not only common in NY area. In the netherlands every fourth car on the road is silver (Benz or not)!
Although I own a silver 300SL I would never choose that color on a newly ordered vehicle.
White definitely is easier to maintain as a black car and smoke silver must be the easiest color ever; it is hard to see the car is dirty until one washes it and one can see the original color again.

The biggest advantage of a white colored car compared to a black one is the extreme difference in interior temperature after the car was parked in the sun for several hours! This was my biggest disappointment after I got rid of my white 190D and got a (dark) blue C250D.

greetingz,

Hello there Grapes...
I would choose White over black any day. Though black opal when clean looks really really sharp.
i was having a tough time too. My C36 is Artic white. very rare to find a C36 in white. My CLK430 is silver. i love the color. very classic and silver cars seem to command more resale value to be honest.

but, i do see some white CLK430s and let me tell you, it is HOT!! white is really clean, smooth and stands out. Since the CLK is not a large car, white is a good choice. Black is really nice for large cars like the S-class.

Stay with white. lower the car with a suspension upgrade and it will look very very mean!

take care

I know you have already made up your mind but I'll post my Vote for White anyway.

Now,.... if we could just figure out how to keep those front wheels clean for longer than a day!!!!

Hey roas, are you talikng about the brake dust on the car rims? because if you are I know the solution, there is a cap you can buy and it goes over the brake-part that gives off dust and the rims stay dirt free!! I'll try to get more info for you.

Thanks Grapes,

I wasn't sure if there where brake dust shields for the Mercedes and if they are recommended?

Although after the excercise in braking I made today at speed, I am not sure I want any impairment at all! Lets just say I was testing the upper limits.

Sorry for going off topic.

I think that there are too many black and silver Benzes. Almost all the cars are either one of these colors. I personally like the ruby mist-the metallic maroon color. It departs a real richness to the car, a statement it should make. As for my Benzes, I have a smoke silver SL and a forest green C-280. The smoke silver is the BEST color to keep clean. Good luck with the New Car!

I love black. It looks the best on a Benz, however white is easy to maintain. If your worried about maintenance, then I have the best solution for you. : Just ignore the Lexus After all its only a Lexus, a Benz is superior.
LOL Get the California car duster, that way just wipe the car down occasionally and it'll look great. I want a black Mercedes, they look the best, however I also like Slate, Pearl Black etc.

I have a Smoke Silver 300E, and, its true that you can't really tell that its dirty until you wash it and see the real color. Of course it bugs the hell out of me to see my car dirty.

Oh Grapes, what dealership are you picking your car up from?
I'm also in the N.Y area.

Hi guys...

Wanna hear something funny? Here in Korea, black cars have a higher resale value than any other color. I guess it's because people think it's more prestigious. Anyways, I've had experiences in black, white, silver, and blue cars. Like captAlex said, silver cars you can hardly tell if they are dirty or not(except in some extreme cases) and look nice in Mercedes. Personally I would get black over white for MB colors. Black Mercedes looks so mean and bad-ass

In the netherlands the resale value of black cars is not higher, but the resale value of white cars is definitely lower as the resale value of other colored cars.

But what the heck; Grapes, you are buying the car for yourself and not for anyone else!!

Maintenance...I washed my silver 300SL yesterday and was surprised by the color again... You never consider the car to be that dirty until you have it cleaned...

Well over the weekend I just saw several CLK's around and you guys were right, they were all black and silver. Except for one it was green. YUCK what a nasty looking color for that car. However last night I was in the city and I saw a white CLK55 AMG, lowered, rims, and smoke tints. Oh man did it look goood! Now I'm really glad that I chose white, that thing look nice under the city lights.
Oh and CaptAlex I'm getting my car from the Benzel-Bush dealer in Englewood, NJ. But guess what, I called a couple days ago to see when the delivery date for my car was because it was supposed to be for February and my sales person said that the car has not even gone into production! Now it's gonna be like mid-March I'll be getting the thing. Do you think they will give me some free stuff if I throw a fit and get all pissed off at the dealership. I mean it's worth a try, right?
