I just want to know if the W107 560SL transmission starts in 1st gear or 2nd?? Is there a way to make it start in 1st with some mods? Just curious. Thanks

The 560 SL starts in second gear. You will need to manually shift into the "B" mode to get the car to start in first. I have installed a first gear start module from Bergworks which allows it start in first automatically. It works great and was only a 3 to 4 hour job to do. I am very particular and do not rush my work. It properly could be installed faster. Do a search on this forum for "first gear start” and you should get some good information.

why would mercedes do that start off in 2nd gear? i dont understand what thier reasoning could be

Well there's probably a bunch of reasons... probably easier on the drivetrain, easier on old fogies' necks, and easier on MPG.
