Has anybody swapped their rotors for ATE PowerDisc or any other rotors, i.e. drilled, slotted, etc. etc.? I was thinkin' of swapping to ATE PowerDisc and using my stock pads for now on a '95 E420, and maybe upgrading the pads later on...does anybody have experience with 'em? Good or bad? I think I need the rotors replaced soon, that is why I am askin'...thank you!

I used only two sets of these...I had problems with noise that I could not get rid of. Good idea, bad noises on Mercedes.

Okay, then I probably won't be gettin' them. I really hate noisy brakes. Thank you for the help Benzmac!

The noise is NOT a squeal or squeak but for first 1-2k miles a heavy noise when appling the brakes. Seems like the noise goes away & braking is good. I have used cross-drilled rotors with no noise.

thanx a lot!

The PowerDisc don't seem to be much more than the stock rotors, and if they provide better stopping power and better wear, I think I may just get 'em. Is the noise that you are talkin' about a sorta "grinding" noise???

OK, I gotta ask. What is with the duck references ?

The duck feelings that I get are when I take my car to the dealer for service and get a "BIG BILL"

Sorry. Had to do it.

Really, what is with the duck stuff ?

DuckMuck:
I need new rotors and pads on my 300E, and couldn't come up with the cash at this point to do the 400E conversion. I planned on just using OE parts, but my independent Tech I use recommended factory pads with ATE Powerdisks. He said they are noisy for a couple of thousand miles, then quiet down, and he likes them better than std rotors. So, I'll let you know how they work out after he installs them next tuesday.

Never had a problem with ATE Power Disks. They are not necessarily better in stopping. The slots are to help from heat and gas buildup. The purpose is to keep the disc from heat. I haven't had problems with them such, as noise. I've also had cross-drilled rotors. It is almost the same as slotted but, those had a unique noise. Those were on a previous BMW. Also, you are aware that with cross-drilled. You have less braking material. It helps in heat and gas dissapation not, braking better. If anything it makes braking with less material. So, if you warp your rotors like crazy like, I did with my old BMW. Every single time I had to change out the rotors and pads every 2-3 months. Then, you should consider this but, otherwise stick with stock. If you want upgrade your brakes for, better braking distance. Get 500E brake setup. Hope this helps

Cross drilled Rotors

I personally have changed my Rotors to cross drilled and I personally found that the stopping was beter than the stock. Then again i used a pretty expensive brake pad(as recommended) (potterfield) I got them From Al over at Bekkers as for the noise it was`nt that bad considering the better braking, and their was the fact that the pads created much less brake dust that i had exprence before.
And that`s my 2 cents on that question, now mind you i`m not a specialist on these matters.

Ronald Pantin,

Are the cross-drilled rotors that you are referring to made by Stillen? Did you get both the front and rear rotors, or only the front? In terms of the Porterfield Carbon Kevlar brake pads, I've heard many good things about them, although they cost about 5X more than any other aftermarket pad I've seen. I'm assume you changed the pads on all four corners also? By the way, what do you drive? Just looking at the pricing for Stillen cross-drilled rotors and Porterfield Carbon Kevlar brake pads for an '95 E420 at all four corners, it will probably set me back around $1000US...thanx for the information!

hey Duck no way it ran me a $1000.00 U.S. i got them all from Bekkers. I do have cross drilled on all four corners and they are Brembo rotors I think they were $95.00 a piece. The front pads were a bit expensive $126.00 I put them in over a year now and my car is a daily drive 1987 300E. They are still going strong I have two cousins with three hundreds also and these guys have changed pads twice since i got mines, so i also belive that you get what you pay for with these pads.
