Where are these carbon fiber pillars from? Are they aftermarket, or some sorta option from the dealership? Anybody know?

Some people say that it isn't really carbon fiber, and just carbon fiber tape that Mercedes-Benz can stick on your car as an option or original equipment. When did Mercedes-Benz start using carbon fiber tape on their cars?!?!

That's the pillar from the sports package cars (at least on the C-class). The C36's and C43's have them too i think...they kinda go along with the faux carbon fiber interior trim that they get, too...it's fake, but i guess it gives it a "racy" look to it... =) hey, if anyone has them for sale, i'll take em!!

theres a guy on ebay who sells a carbon fibre 3M Laminate, supposed to have a 5 year exterior life, easy to install. I got some of his burlwood laminate and used it ont he radio in my car. Doesn't match the benz wood that well, but radio looks great. :)

back in 94ish I was working with the owner of a company that made carbon look dashkits for my old dub and since I was his first customer working with him he sent me sheets of faux carbon sheets.

I have 2 left one is a thin design that is made to wrap around curves with a blowdryer.

I'm visiting my parents next weekend and I'll bring the sheets home and snap a pic of them. If any of you are interested email me.

Here's a pic of the sheets installed on my friends 190E

These carbon fiber pillars are not after market but OEM mercedes. Mercedes uses them since the 1993 C-class and in Europe they were available on the models with the "sport" package. A complete carbon fiber trimmed interior is included in this package.
These carbon fiber pillars were used on all the C-class AMG models as well.
In Europe we had the "classic" and "esprit" package which had matt black trims on the outside of the car and the "elegance" package with black chromate trims on the outside.

Mercedes changed the carbon fiber pattern in 1997 (together with the model change).
In Europe the E-class "avantgarde" has got a kind of carbon fiber pillars as well, but these were changed very soon into pillars with car-colored dots on them...
The E-class "classic" and "elegance" come with different trims.

All carbon fiber trims on the C-class are fake, but look nice (I think). I bought new carbon fiber pillars for my C-class as well, to complete the "sport" package and they only cost about $40,- each...

Mbenz is right. On sport models the B pillars have a carbon look to them. And the interior wood trim is replaced by carbon look also. I actaully like the look of the carbon (even though its fake) than the wood.

I believe on the SLK you can get real carbon though. But then the question you have to ask is this.... are you getting it for looks or are you really trying to save weight. hmmmm. :D

Joey,

The carbon fiber touch on the SLK's is fake as well and that is good enough for something that is only ment to look good...and to be honest: I think it does look good, or better: great!

I am getting carbon fiber not for weight.
It's for protection, from a car jacking. j/k

I was thinking of chroming my engine or at least parts of it. Hmmm, wondering if that Carbon fiber laminate was heat resitant. Rather just cover my air filter with it. Well, maybe not. Food for thought.

MBenz,
The factory SLK kit is fake however they do sell through the aftermarket real carbon fibre trim. It looks really good. I was searching to replace my fax one with some real ones but could not find a suppiler.

Those are standard b-pillars trims on the E55. On the attached link however, are the third party ones.
