Well fellow Mercedes Benz enthusiasts, I'm only in high school right now and I'm planning to major in engineering in college. I guess you can say that this messageboard is my first step to mechanics.

Well, I've planned to turbo my 2.6, and I would like to know what other components I should change in the car so those components would work well with the car.

Differential? Transmission? Engine Components? Anything else?

Oh yes, what is a differential (I've been wondering this for the longest time)? What is specs of the Diff on my car? As compared to other 190E 16V? What type of Diff would accomodate a 2.6 Turbo? Could you lend me some knowledge Clinton? What about exhaust system? I'm planning to use a Random Technology Cat and a Remus Muffler. What about the resonator and headers and anything else in an exhaust system?

To tell you the truth, this is probably the best Benz message board I've been to ever. You guys are the best.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Throttle:
There is a neat web site on How Stuff Works. This page has info on turbos and differentials.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/category.htm?cat=Auto

Good luck with your conversion, and your career choice.

Most 190E 2.6's have an OPEN 2.88/1 diff & the 16V has 3.27 limited slip. Quite a difference!

Throttle,

Am I reading your signature right, you are still in HS and also have a 1992 500E and 1998 ML320?

Was the "How Stuff Works" site enough help?

I am sure a Local Car Club in your area would be a wealth of general info. Racing is a also great way to learn what makes a car "tick", especially if you are filling the mechanic's shoes! Karting is relatively inexpensive and you learn what works and doesn't work very quickly as far as suspension goes.

Hope this helps.

Hehe... hey roas... I wish that 500E was mine, but its not, and yes... the website was of great help.

On this forum, I not only represent myself but also the rest of my family who are in the Mercedes circle, which include my dad and my mom.

I drive the 190, my dad the 500, and my mom the ML. We'll never drive a car that ain't a Mercedes.

As a teen right now, I have the greatest need for speed. That why I wish I had something close to a 500. But I finally realize that the 190 is probably the greatest car a teenager like myself could have, especially the way me and my dad fixed ours up. My friends all try to challenge me in races with their riceburners (I'm the only non-riceburner in the crew), but I just told them I'd rather cruise and have people look twice when they see my car, instead of blasting on the freeway, even though the 190 can blast on the freeway.

If you wanna see a pic of my 1991 190E 2.6, click here...
http://www.geocities.com/throttlestylez/me190.jpg

Right now, its got Euro headlights and Clear Blinkers, with Polished Evo II Rims riding on Nitto rubber. I did plan a turbo for this car, but adding a turbo on a car with 111000miles is kinda a waste. Still plan to lower it with Eibachs, possibily add a 16v bodykit, Random Tech high flow cat and Remus Rallye muffler, along with other minor accessories, instead of blowing $4000 on a turbo that would only add 50 hp. As I always say... "I'd rather get to my destination in STYLE rather than with SPEED."

It may be a 10 yr old car, but it runs likes its 1. Hehe its funny how some people who never were interesting in Benz asked if my car was new... I kinda thought that that remark was alittle too farfetched. On average... people say its a 93 94 95 car... makes me proud to be in the Benz circle with the rest of you guys. Later.

Just wanted to say, nice ride man; I think white's the color on a 190. Was it originally a Sportline? Just curious.

Hey there,

It sounds like you have a pretty good plan for your 2.6. As far as the diff. goes.....now that you know what it is and does, just leave it for now. Your stock diff. won't pose much of a threat to adding a turbo. But your stock exhaust would be better off changed to a 3" system. This is going to be a thing of difficulty b/c all the aftermarket Mercedes exhausts are made for naturally aspirated cars not turbo cars. I'm currently looking at my options for a new set up as well and will help you out if/when you get your turbo. If you decide to go with the turbo, you will need a new exhaust manifold made to accompany the turbo as the turbo sits between the downpipe and the manifold. However, the Mosselman turbo kit comes with the manifold already. Did you ever figure out if Mosselman makes the kit for your 2.6?? Damn....I wish my Dad was like yours and cruised around in a 500. You need to take a group photo man. hehe.

Clinton,

Have you had a chance to go and get some numbers at the Drag strip?

I am curious at what kind of performance increase you have seen from stock to present.

Throttle,

Sweet ride, looks nice and clean.

Ross

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

No my 190 isn't a Sportline... they were only made it 1993 if I'm not mistaken. If you look close enough in the picture, you'll see a small black badge on the side of the car that says "Sport" just like on C280 Sports. Ain't nothing wrong with trying to be alittle modern? hehe

Well, I decided to drop the turbo for a 2.6. Too much money for so little power. Many people I know tell me that keeping it stock would be the best thing... it's a Mercedes. At first I blew them off... but now I realize they're right. I've looked into the many cons of too many upgrades. Bad idle, high cost of maintenance on top of what is already being done, blah blah blah, yada yada yada. When I cruise around with my girlfriend, I wouldn't want her to be annoyed by so much idle and crazy vibrations and that sort of thing. I've riden in many of my friends' riceburners and such... they have so many upgrades, their car is pretty much not stock anymore. Sure the car can go alittle faster than mine, but with that comes noise 4-banger-cylinder engine, annoying exhuast, bad idle at stop lights, and bumpy rides from bad lowering springs.

Do I want that? HELL No. Stock and smooth is cool enough for me. Plus, I've gotten more girls with my ride than most of the riceburners combined

So basically I cut my upgrades list in half. All I have left is: Eibach, tailights from WALD-Japan, Sports Grille, Updated shift knob, and stereo system. Tons of money saved, comfortable drive quality intact, and more girls. Sounds good, eh?

Well thanks for offering help Clinton, but its ok. I'm sure there are more like myself who could use your help.

Yes, there is a turbo kit for 2.6. Total output is 210hp/310Nm for $4600 shipped from TDI-PLC. What a rip-off.
I'll just wait after college for a 96 C36.

Thanks for your support guys. Later

You have a very good and true philosophy about , the car that you drive, and your demeanor. You'll get speed later, first off settle in on a nice safe, beautiful, and prestigious car. I used to be like, you however in college, you'll see less rice burners (almost none), and people will respect you even more for driving a Benz, and the car adds maturity to you. you see, the only thing is that my Benz never attracted girls.

I was going to send you an email to see if you were OK - hadn't seen you post in a while, so I thought you might have the flu or be busy with finals (or out on the boat ). You are correct that the MB won't attract GIRLS, but you will find it is popular with WOMEN, especially smart ones!

Hey there,

Yeah its all good......you sound like a very responsible person and that is great. Shows just what kind of crowd Mercedes Benz Vehicles attract. Your car will be be bad ass after all that you want to do with it. I need to get some new taillights too, how much do the WAld taillights run??? I'm interested.....later.

I need the hook up for some tail lights too. I still have my stock ones which look like garbage with the orange in the corners. I can't have that with the clear blinkers up front. Throttle and Clinton, your cars are smart!!! RESPECT. I'll post some pics of my car in the spring when I get through this ****ing winter in the hell hole I call Canada.

Later boys,

MIKE MCKINNEY

Hello again guys.

Thanks for the comments. Really appreciate it.

I was at the WALD website and the tailights are awesome. The ones that are pictured are just like the stock, but the blinker is clear, then tinted with red. That would look sweet on any 190E. I took the price and had it converted from 50,000 yen to $451. Alittle pricey don't you think? I hope they have a distributor here in the states with a cheaper price.

Until then...
