Nope not a high speed one. I thought you guys would enjoy this. Did it about a week ago. And yes, it did require advance planning.

Is your car equipped with the K40? You have two lights on both sides of your speedometer...

No, but I was very curious as to what they were for. I have a 1993 400E if anyone knows. Thanks.

It looks like K40 to me!

You see, he has the same thing too! http://www.k40.com Are you the first owner of your 400E? Maybe the previous owner uninstalled it...you might wanna check your front and rear bumper for the mounting holes (if they still exist) for the unit...or maybe he was doin' some sorta retrofit on his own? I don't know...but it seems to be related to some sorta radar detector, according to my guess!

I am the second owner. The first owner was a family friend. Was it offered from the dealer or aftermarket? He wasn't the type of guy that would get anything aftermarket. Not a car nut at all.

hmmm...I never saw it in the options sheet when I bought my car new, so I'm guessin' it wasn't a factory option. However, it seems a lot of the 500E owners on this board have the K40...maybe they can shed some light...However, those two red lights on your speedo, are DEFINITELY not suppose to be there...

Wow, now I want to know what this is!! I already have a detector, but I got pulled over today anyways. Wouldn't mind upgrading to a K-40. That is a stealth install.

Looks like the LED's that are installed in my 500E that came with the car.

You can take a peek under the front and rear bumpers to see if you see a small receiving unit with coaxial wire leading to it.

The adjustments for mine are two small wheel knobs in the recess under the Parking brake release area. They are mounted one on top of the other and turn clockwise and counter-clockwise.

Hope this helps. BTW, the K40 apparently is not the greatest performer! I took a road trip last week and had numerous false alarms and to this date, have had only two visually verified alarms! Not to great.

Could this be the box you are talking about?

I see the two nobs you were talking about. This is located in my trunk under the rear speakers. If this is a K40, how do I get it to work? Thanks.

NoDubs,

You should find some useful info at http://www.k40.com/, Michael gave me this link last week.

There must be controls to the unit somewhere in the cabin, but where?

As a side note if the unit is not functional, you might be wise to spend any money planned for the K40 on a "Valentine 1" system instead.

Hope this helps.

I already have a Whistler that works great, so I wasn't planning on spending any money. I have heard great things about the V1 though.

I'll search around tomorrow for some control. You'd think I would have seen them by now. Oh well. Thanks for the help guys.

Oh yeah and I searched around http://www.k40.com and I couldn't find anything useful. The instruction manuals were useless. I might just take it to a K40 installer and see what they say. Peace

Just how well do these radars work? I have a simple "old" one in my car (its about 4 years old). I rarley ever use it, and don't know just how effective these things really are.
