I have a 1980 450SL. Unfortunately, in 1980 a 3-way catalytic converter was added to the 450s and the horsepower decreased by 20. If I change the cats, to a free flowing one will there be any problems? I also have not found any manufacturers out there. Can you help? Maybe the 560SL cats flow better and just bolt on. I forgot to add that I think my cats are bad so I have to change them.

I really don't know how much help a higher flow catalyst will be. The catalysts from a 500 or 560 will not fit due to differences in the systems. The 1980 450 in USA trim has a compression ratio of 8.0:1(compared to 8.8:1 for Europe)and a very conservative timing advance curve. These are both important contributing factors to the 160 SAE HP rating. But on the plus side, you've got 230 lb-ft of torque.
