My 190E 2.3-16 has vented and slotted front rotors. What is the function of the slots?

The slots allow hot gasess to escape, letting your brake system work better, due to good contact between the surface of the rotor and pad material.

Its interesting to note that all the new mercedes AMG cars come with at least, front drilled rotors. There are postings on the site that indicate many people consider these unsafe...perhaps someone can comment on the new AMG cars rotors...Are they cast holes as porsche uses or does a special heat treatment occur post drilling? This seems to be one of the more controversial topics in this forum especially in street car use. Previous posters indicate liability and cracking issues...and several past posters stated that they believe that cross drilling only marginally helps when wet...I have crossdrilled chamfered rotors on a 190e 16 valve and an 8 valve...both are on the front only and are brembo stock, but they were drilled by bestprice (something or another) company up in Canada. They advertise in Euro car, Autoweek, etc...My 190e 8 valve has 115k miles on these rotors and the 16 valve about 15k. The 8 valve rotors have minimal wear. Comments????
