126 Front suspension

What causes front right side suspension noise in 126's? sounds like a bumping noise when it goes over minor pavement imperfections?

Sounds like two things.

First, should have been posted in the tech section and second, it sounds like you need guide rod mounts. Worn guide rod mounts cause the noise you describe.

The guide rod attaches to the lower control arm and behind to the aluminum mounts. The rod screws into a threaaded shaft, used for caster adjustment, that has a ball joint and rubber internals to control brake forces and front to rear wheel movement.

The internals get damaged due to rust and dirt and clunk over bumps, speed and otherwise. The rubber boots split and the outer metal ring rusts. Replacement isn't that hard but once you start replacing one part, others bits will need replacing too.

Some models are on disc1, some on disc2. Mine is on disc1.

(just a note, you can remove the ball joint carrier bushing with a plastic hammer and push the new ones in with your hands. Use a little silicone spray)

(Step 4, use a large spanner/wrench on the outer metal to install the ball joint. Align the drain hole and split outer surface.)

Inspect all rubber boots and if the ball joints need to be replaced, take the spindle to a shop. The tool is $400.

Support the lower control arm if you remove the spindle/upright.

You will need an alignment.

also

could be tie rod ends. they chuckle over small bumps and make steering a little loose feeling.

Thanks. Did the end rod mounting kits; definitely need a 2 ton press to remove them. while there I changed the back and front big rubber donuts bushings located in the arm (2 ea side; one large; one smaller). Now I got a big rubber squeak from the right side: cause? is it a correct torquing issue? what's ideal torque for the bolts holding those big rubber bushings?
