I have a 1986 420SEL which I think is rated for around 200hp and 238ft/lbs torqe. I was looking at the features cars section on this site and saw that the E420 has the 119 engine. It is also 4.2l but puts out 275 hp and 295ft/lbs torque. How is this engine different from mine to get so much more power, and is there a way to use some of the improvements on the 119 to enhance my 116 engine?

About $50,000. No kidding. You'd have to alter the bottom end (increase to 6.0+ liters, stronger crank, con rods, and pistons); the trick, though is that you'd have to be able to find a set of Hammer heads...as I understand it, putting your hands on the Loch Ness Monster is an order of magnitude simpler.
Enjoy your strong, reliable M116 motor, 'cuz you can't really get any gains on the older mechanically injected motors without mods like Doc proposed. Good one, Doc. ------------------ All the best, Michael 500E 300TE |
