I was interested in installing an "MSD Blaster" ignition amplifier and hi-output/performance coil on my '85 190E 2.3 (8v). The items are supposedly higher than stock performance, but not actual racing stuff, so they should be able to be used on street cars. I wanted to know if they will improve performance and economomy on this old MB. The price range is $90-300 on the amplifyers (I was leaning toward the cheaper ones) and $30-60 for the coils. The coil is a rather radical heat sink bright red thing that looks nothing like the cylindrical type...but they also have the cylindrical types too. Any comments or bewares would be appreciated. Thanks. Joe

Unless the engine has been modified to turn 6500 + rpm, an aftermarket ignition won't help much at all.

M.B. Doc,
I'm just curious because I was thinking about doing this. I was told that a MSD (mltiple spark discharge) helped out slightly with low end torque something that my 300E is lacking. I know many Honda owners that say they've seen a noticeable improvement. I ask Your opinion before i go out and spen 200 dollars on the system. Thanks |
