Brake Upgrades

Looking at upgrading the front brakes on my 1988 300CE (w124.050) I have read a few posts about 400/500e brakes being a bolt on, is this true or is more to the story.

TIA

You can do a search about this topic here.
However, you can try to get one of these 4 pot calipers with
1. 22 mm thick disk from 300CE 24v
2. 25 mm thick disk from E320
3. 28 mm thick disk from E500 or W129
These are bolted on replacement without any modification. They also use the same disk pads.

Be careful on the last one, I put the one from 500SL. The calipers is larger that I have to put a spacer on the hub, otherwise I need to change my wheels.

Upgrading your pads to a Carbon-Kevlar pad (like a Porterfield) would be a great improvement and by far the cheapest alternitive. You might even want to try that before changing brake assemblies.

got the parts......

Well I just scored a pair of dual pot calipers off of a '93 W124 V8, I plan on replacing my current single piston calipers on my '88 CE, I have purchased the rotors (cross drilled) to match the new calipers and a s/s hose kit for the lines.

I will post pix of my upgrade in a few days.........

W124 v-8s had 4-piston front calipers. 2-pots were only on the rears.
