The Peachtree Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America is hosting a regional event at the Talladega Gran Prix Racetrack (a 1.35 mile road course track) in Talladega, Alabama on Saturday, June 23, 2001. The event is expected to draw participants from all over the Southeast and around the nation. There will be lessons on Defensive Driving to learn more about handling your Mercedes-Benz at its limits.
For the more timid (me included), there will be an opportunity to participate in a "regularity run". This event is designed to test your skills on the track, but at a speed that anybody would be comfortable with. The object of this event is to make two timed laps around the track (go as slow or fast as you like) and the winner will be the car with the least variance in the time between the first and second laps.
The track is located some 5 miles from Anniston, AL and is approximately 90 minutes west of Atlanta out I-20. The cost of the event has not been finalized, but the goal is to keep the registration fee as low as possible. More details will be forthcoming and look for an ad in The Star. Mark your calendars now.
