I have a 1995 C280 and I just had an aluminum cat-back exhaust system and new Magnaflow muffler put it. I noticed when I start the car up cold, the exhaust makes a "snap ,crackle, pop" noise and sounds real "rice-burner"ish and I have an I6. Anyhow, I don't think the noise is natural and its sounds real crude. I know aftermarket exhaust adds sounds and resonance but this sound is noticeable bad and sounds like something wrong with the exhaust- Anyways, it will go away after about 5 minutes and I was wondering if this is normal problem with a muffler or if I should get it replaced or it will go away. BTW, I've driven about at least 200 miles with the new exhaust system. Please hlep

Most mufflers have a break in period of 100 or more miles before they finally settle on the sound they will make.

The crackling you hear could be the muffler heating up in the cold weather outside and the metal is expanding or contracting.

I hear crackles from some cars when new too for a while.

Hope that helps, I'm not a pro, but thats what I think.

Alon

Magnaflow sounds like a rice burner exhaust. Who is the manufacturer?

I don't know

Hi,

I don't know the manufacturer, but I know someone used a Magnaflow on this board and he really liked it.

Reading your post is very interesting.
You say you have an aluminum cat back exhaust system.
That sounds very intriguing for I,m not familiar with exhaust systems made of aluminum.
You surely are hearing the expansion of the exhaust material as it gets hot, and it probably will not go away.
Tell us more about your PVC cold air induction.
I too have ram air induction on my '87 300E. I have 2 inlet tubes.
You can see mine at http://home.earthlink.net/~asherson/Don
Maybe you have some pics for us to see?
