Does anybody have this setup? Can somebody tell me how they retrofit it? I see kits on Bekkers for W140, W202, and W210, but non for W124...I see that Wald Japan sells the grille for W124, pictured here:

Looks pretty good right? They sell two versions: on for W124's up to '93, and one for W124's from '94-'95. I am thinkin' of gettin' it. Anybody else interested in this stuff or am I the only one? Thoughts and comments appreciated!

I've put the grille on my '94 E320 wagon, and I think it looks pretty darn good. It isn't as solid an installation as the OEM grille, and in fact the only workable attachments for the new grille are the screw in the bottom middle and the top two center spring clips (the fittings for the other spring clips just don't line up). If you grab the grille to help open the hood, or use it to help close the hood, it just isn't as solid as the original grille. I can live with that and I like the look.

Got mine from Bekkers just before Christmas.

Hope this helps,

Bill

Hey Sludge,

What grille are you talkin' about? I am lookin' in bekkers catalog, and I don't see avantgard/S600 grille for W124...are u tellin' me they sell the kit for W124, or you bought the W202 or W140 avantgard grille kit and fit it to your W124?

Donald,

$295!?!?!?

The grill is available for the W124. I was thinking of getting this grill insert for my (nearly) updated W124 E-class, but since I saw a W124 with such a grill last week, I am not sure anymore....
The avantgarde grill looks good on most of the mercedes models, but on a W124 the grill has too many horizontal chrome strips...I am not sure anymore whether I will mount one...

If you know a bit German, you can have a look at http://www.dw-online.de as well. They have this grill insert (made by MHW) in their delivery program.

MBenz,

I was lookin' at the avantgard grille on these W124's, and I thought it looked pretty good:

Don:

Actually, I spotted the grille at the Bekker website and ordered it over the phone. I have since received the catalog and note that they do not offer it there. I don't know why. I see that their website doesn't seem to offer it anymore, either.

DuckMuck,

I do definitely agree with you that this grill looks great on these pictures (and that is just the reason why I wanted to buy one myself), but when I encounter a W124 with that grill under the usual dutch DULL and cloudy sky...
It almost looks like there are one or two chrome strips too many; it is a kind of overdone (but I think I will use one anyway!).

Hey you qwacker

The grille I referanced is the SL big circle star.
I seem to be a witsend looking at the beauty you have diplayed.
Is the hood medaline in the hood or the grille?
It is a beauty.
Just last week I backed into a pole and damaged my rear bumper.
It cracked the gray base bumper.
There is a bumper repair shop that will hot air weld the cracks, look like new.
What do you think the bumper would look like painted to match the body color, mono thyeme?
The Euros look super!

Donald,

Are you referencing the last monochrome black W124 that I posted? The first two pictures are '94/'95 W124's...the monochrome black W124 at the very end is actually a pre-'94 W124 with the following grille frame from in-pro so that it will have the updated '94/'95 look:

So the medallion fits onto that new grille frame, as you can see.

You say your bumper is grey, so I assume you either have a silver M-B with grey bumpers, or a black M-B with grey bumpers right? I think your car would look beautiful completely monochrome, like these cars:
