Do I need to get new shocks in the rear with my springs? I've heard that H&R makes a kit that enables me to keep the self leveling without buying new shocks. Should I keep the self leveling? I'll go with either Eibachs or H&R's it doesnt matter. Everywhere I go, someone tells me something new. I don't know who to believe.

I guess a lot depends on how much you want to lower the car & how much to OE springs have settled. The rear can be lowered to the lowest point that the springs will hold the car up without any leveling intervention.

I want to lower the car as much as possible. I think both Eibach and H&R will lower it about 1.5" all around. Then I'll put on #1 pads all around. I need to know if I need to buy new shocks in the rear in order to lower it (that's what one place told me) or if I can just buy the springs. Also, should I keep the self leveling? Are there any benfits or disadvantages of taking it away? Thanks.

Mike

The design of the leveling system is to compensate for weight in rear of car. If the rear can be lowered by adjusting leveling valve then the springs are sagging. Putting heavier but shorter springs will allow the rear to sit lower. If you drop car by more than 1.5-2" then rear tires will wear quickly due to negative camber.

Thanks for your help doc. I guess I'll keep the selv leveling and not lower it more than 1.5". Does anyone know if I need to replace the rear shocks in order to lower it? Or can I just replace the springs?

Mike
