Today my friend with a 1999 Audi 2.8 was taking his Audi to a body shop to get ground effects, and with him was another freind who was driving after him to give him a ride back home once he dropped the car off. (h is friend drives a 98 C230 Kompressor. Any way I was driving back from my boat when my friend with his Audi tailgated me and flashed his high beams. I let him to go pass however he insisted. since this was night on a open road I stomped on it at 30 mph. Anyways I zoomed up to 60 (him on my tail) braked and cornered on a sharp turn, bang back on the gas, zipped around a corner at 50, (much body lean then. Then we hit 80 on a short straightaway with the Audi on my ass all the way. We slowed big time around a 90 degree turn, and stopped at a light. I dropped my window and he dropped his and we exchanged comments like him saying (Wow that oldie Benz shocked me with its ability to hold the road so well, I'm suprised at how well that thing ran. I told him I love his quattro. His really hot girlfriend told me that her Boyfriend was cursing in the car and saying,: Sh%t, I can't pass that thing, sh&t, how the hell is that possible. Then when the light turned green he gunned it and then I gunned it in 2nd (so I get first gear start) Pulled really hard shifted into drive, pulled even harder I was right on the Audi and gained and gained untill we were even and then started pulling away and got ahead, however we had to slow down for a upcomming intersection. My Benz rean great, and I have found new respect for my 300 E. beofre I never really thought it was a "performance car" in any means. Well it turns out that a 13 year old Benz did not only survive, but thrived against a 1999 Audi 2.8 Quattro. I'll be purchasing a newr Benz very soon, and when I graduate college I will buy a AMG car. Right now I'm going to upgrade to a Brabus Cam. ATTn California Benz: Can you tell me more about the Brabus Cam.

Go Mercedes,

Oh and I really liked the Audi when I drove it.

See my specs and info (this section) I added today under a new posting. You'll see the Audi A-8 is also a beatable car. I know, I roasted one for lunch in my wife's stock 300 about a month ago. I have never seen a more embarrassed person than he, especially since he spent $65,000 on his....thing.
Go to Brabus for info. www.Brabus.com
When you talk to these guys, (I go down there all the time) remember you're talking to real Germans) that sell cars for $300,000...
You're in the big leagues there.

1st- CaptBenz, Sorry I put the wrong info in. I can't remember which section I put the specs in, but it's listed as "Real Specs-"
2nd- I don't know what the cam cost, the car already had it. You absolutely would not believe what I paid for it from a dealer even! Of course I still have major connections because of being in car sales years back.
I read someone saying they found a 190,000 mile 500E for sale for 20 grand...and was skeptical.
What is going on here!? Since when is that kind of mileage important on a Benz?! Have you all learned nothing!? Sigh....
Benz Class 101: Thou shalt not commit blasphemy against thine MBZ, Thou shalt know without a bat being smacked in rapid pace against thines skull, that MBZ's commonly go 400 - 600,000 miles on a motor. Thou shalt test drive Chevy's and Hondas every day for 5 years if thout shall mention mileage as meaning ANYTHING in relation to an MBZ ever again. Thout shall also see that he has saved $14,000 on that 500E!!

California benz,
Please clarify what you meant about those guys at Brabus who sell $300,000 cars? Do you mean they are snobby? I was in Long Beach last week for business and was dying to go visit Brabus, but never made it. I was shopping for a new car for my wife a few years back, and when we arrived at the Volvo dealership over one weekend (admittedly we were not dressed to impress at the time), the sales guys got his nose up in the air after one look at us. That's when we decided we will never go near a Volvo dealership again. I hope the guys at Brabus are not like that since I still plan on visiting them next trip to CA.

...I mean these are bonified Germans, not American mechanics/ salesman. They really just moved here! They are used to people with mega serious performance on their minds with very deep pockets. They expect you to know what your talking about or at least that if they spend time discussing working on your MBZ that you are planning on shelling out the cash to do the work. As an ex "car man," nothing upsets one worse than enlightening someone on a vehicle just for the fun of it. Just to watch them nod their heads at everything and walk out the door never to have intended on getting them to work on your car in the first place. While they do sell entire vehicles all done up, they mostly work on YOUR MBZ.
Most people walk in with an under 70,000 mile MBZ and say here, do this or do that. This isn't Pep Boys in other words. A cam kit for an S600 is probably $16 to $20,000. Suspensions start at around $2,500, motors run around $40,000. A set of rims is about 4 grand and up.
If you know engineer type Germans, you know they are exceptionally pure in their work and take what they do far more seriously than our Ford SVT and Chevy Factory performance engineers. (They aren't the joke around lets have a beer & argue compression ratios kind of guys). Example: Ford Cobra Factory SVT big block raced recently against the big block Factory Camaro that went head to head last year. Both teams had UNLIMITED money and virtually no rules to win whatever way possible, backed by their companies! Any part at their disposal. The Ford threw a rod on the first drag and the Chevy disintegrated the brakes and rear end on its next try. A disgrace. Neither won. Had Brabus been racing against Rentech, you would have came to the race in the morning and left in the evening and did the same for a month straight. The race would be a month long. Both MBZ's would be racing non-stop at 220mph with the a/c on and classical in the CD player with 2 Germans in the back sipping warm Cognac. At the end neither vehicle would be sweating in the least.
That's these guys. Picture a power broker with a wrench. They are fun to talk to and really love their Mercedes.
I don't think they are snooty, I just see them as no nonsense professionals.
