I was trying to merge on to 605 North freeway. I turned on my right signal and looked at my mirror make sure that there is no car on the right lane. It was clear. So, I changed my lane... As I am going to change my lane, this Buick behind me, without using turn signal, passed me and took my right lane. Ok.. I just passed another car and merged. After merging into 605, he was behind me. As he was trying to pass me, I put my accelerator down and speed up, at about 110mph he was way down behind me about 5 or 6 car length. I thought that was the end. I took the Baldwin Ave exit towards Arcadia. He also took the same exit. I just slowed down and let him passed me. He passed me and cut me. And finally.. there is stop light infront of us. He "reserved" the left lane for me as he move to the right lane. I saw it was Buick regal GS. He thought his supercharged Buick would beat my plain V8. As the light turned green. We speeded up. Before I changed to 2nd gear, we were on par, maybe I had about one feet more than him. As I changed to second gear, I gain one car length. and about 75 mph, he was one car behind me. I slowed down and purposely stayed beside him. He did not even dare to look at my face. So, I just laugh and speed up again. He did not followed me. Probably, he would sell his "supercharged" buick on the next day.

If the next one says GNX in the grill...don't embarass yourself...it will blow your doors off! Quite possible the Grand National will too. Not saying your car is slow because it's not...these were very quick Buicks. The GS is just their ill performing brother.

Dale has that right. Unless the road has some curves, don't play with a Grand National, especially the GNX. If the guy knows how to drive it (work the turbo and get some traction) they are acceleration demons.
Still a Buick though.

If they handle anything like my ex gf's Regal , well, they don't handle well at all. Her car was fine to ride in, but real scary to drive.

I think the GNX was pretty rare, more so than the Grand National. If I remember right, they were governed at 155 mph, but the DEA got some that weren't speed limited, and the chip for this was in the transfer case to discourage changing the chip.

According to my Buying Guide here the specs are as follows for the Grand National: turbocharged/intercooled 3.8 liter V6 engine, output is 245 horses 4 speed autobox, 215/65/15 tires, curb weight 3208 lbs, front brakes 10.5 in. discs, rear brakes 9.5 drums torque 355lbs/ft.
It does not give exact 0 - 60 figures but says it was as fast as the Corvette. There were 500 special versons built called the GNX
modified by ASC Inc. Supposedly they were collectors even before they were sold.

Don't you believe that 245 bhp for a second. More like 300.
Top speed of the Grand National was factory gov'd at 124 mph. This is after all a Buick chassis. Not exactly autobahn monsters.
Top speed in these could be scary if the road is not perfect, or even if it is.

GNX would have no problem nail a C5 Vette(Watch out M5s, E55s, and 500Es), and as stated above, DO NOT believe the 245hp figure....300-310hp is more like it!!

yeah but its still a buick.

Nowhere near as refined or well engineered as a benz.

And that GNX, in my opinion, wont last for much longer than 50k without some kind of major, major repairs.

If you like rattles, creaks, and noise, by all means buy the buick.. hehe

If you want class, refinement, style, and best of all, reliability, well we all know the answer to that question... BENZ.

What are the 0-60's in the Grand Nationals. Also I thought that over 7000 GNX's were built. Also shoulden't a E55 , 500E, M5 or a M3 be able to dominate the damn things. Also even if the can go really fast for a quater mile ,, they msot likley loose steam big time over 100 ,and that is where the M-5 and the Mercedes models pick up steam, BIG TIME. What are the stats on the GRand National? And didn't each different year model have different H.P ratings.

Here are some real numbers on the Regals.
The GNX was built only in 1987. It had an intercooled, turbocharged, 3.8L V6 that produced "well over 275 HP" and 360 Lb Ft of torque. They built 547 of them and every one was identical. They were incredibly fast, the main problem being traction. The motor produced so much torque, wheelspin was a severe detriment to 0-60 times. Depending on conditions, 0-60 times could be as low as high 5's. Quarter mile times could be as low as high 13's, low 14's at speeds close to 100 MPH.

The Grand National was a different car. They were built from 1984 to 1987 with a total of 20,193 being built. They started out with 200 HP, 300 Lb Ft in 1984 to 245 HP, 355 Lb Ft in 1987. These are quoted HP figures. Many argue the actual numbers are significantly higher.

These cars were all straight line rockets. The GNX was the fastest passenger car produced in 1987 and the Grand National wasn't far behind. Both of these cars would seriously embarass most MB's on the road today. They had speed limiters on them because of the ratings the factory tires came with. Unlimited, they were capable of speeds in excess of 160 MPH (the DEA had some). I had a 5.0L Mustang with a 5-speed and learned the hard way how quick these cars are. The Mustang leapt off the line but the Grand National blew by at about 45-50 MPH. I caught him again because the Mustang had no limiter but he was a ways ahead when I started gaining. (bit of a chuckle here, the 'stang was only in 4th gear & I shifted as I went by).
Other than the E55 and the M5 I don't think there are very many other Merc's or Bimmers capable of even getting close to these cars in a straight line. A road course may be a different story but given all the special mods to the GNX, they might even challenge there. Bottom line...unless you have lots to lose, don't race these cars for anything but bragging rights and even then there won't be much bragging going on...

you might be outgunned but you wont be outclassed. Besides those cars are for the redneck crowd. How many grand nationals do you see in drs and lawyers parking lots or parked in front of the beverly hills hotel.

If you parked one of those in front of a hotel in Beverly Hills, they would call the Police
