AMG modified 500E?
I have been looking at a 1992 500E which is located in Germany. The condition is supposed to be excellent as well as the service records.
I am being told that the car was originally devilvered with several AMG mods like the suspension, transmission etc. Has anyone heard about this before?? here is the link to the car: http://www.autoscout24.de/home/index/detail.asp?ts=4192875&id=p3zhpfuftyh&source=as24_inseratsg_detail_ueberschrift Here is the description about the AMG stuff in the advertisment: AMG-Fahrwerk,AMG-Technik-Paket, AMG-Optik-Paket,3-teilige 18"Zoll AMG Felgen 255/ 40-18 And btw has anyone ever heard of non stamped AMG wheels If these are not AMG has anybody seen these wheels before and knows where they come from? I am not looking for a cosmetically mint condition car as this will be my daily driver but of course it is important that the car is in very good mechanical condition. Thanks in advance for the help. |

Yes AMG did modify the 500E. I have the part number for the suspension pieces someplace but will have to look for it. Regarding wheels.... all AMG wheels are stamped with "///AMG" or "AMG" depending if its pre or post 1993.

AMG was good at raiding the MB parts bin for their projects. Most likely, the transmission was not modified, although I have heard of some AMG modified 500E's where they integrated the 1st gear start relay from the 400E, other than that, the trans was basically a stock R129 unit
