Everyone,
A nice follow up to Michael's roll call might be a picture roll call.
Post pics of your beloved 500E/ E500 for all to share.
Just a thought...

WOW

Run
Your car looks great! very clean looks like you had a great body shop working on your car and is that the original paint.

Subman

Thank you very much for the compliment, Subman.

The current paint is not original; I did a color change from the original (smoke silver - aka beige) to "brilliant silver" about 6 months ago. That accounts for the beige interior (which I will have re-done, at Brabus, 24 to 36 months from now - color undecided).

The new paint is factory (OEM) paint, though - the same silver as the new Mercedes-Benz vehicles. I like it much better, this way.

If you want 500E/E500 pic's, I believe Dean's site has a great start!

Click here, http://www.need2speed.web.com/ and then click on the Gallery link on the left.

According to the 500E/E500 rollcall post started months ago, we still have about 2 dozen + members yet to submit photo's. :)

Run.Exe's 500

Scott,
Took a look at your pics. Paint looks gorgeous!
On another note, I also mounted tweeters in the identical location to that which you used. However, I used the original piece of triangular plastic, which covers the mirror housing.
What did you use? I would be most curious to know, since it looks very nicely done indeed.

tweeter tweaks

Farrukh:

Thank you very much for your compliments.

To answer your question, I made my tweeter pods with polyurethane foam, hand-sanded and formed to fit within the
inside of the mirror-mount point, near the front pillars.

Once built, I ported holes for the speaker-wire and then epoxy glued the pods to the doors; in so doing, the application is tight, vibration-free (well, tweeters are not exactly subwoofers, I realize). I lightly tacked the
DynAudio tweeter pods into their receptacles with a less aggressive adhesive, if/when I need to remove/replace/repair them.

Kind regards,

Scott,

Absolutely beautiful car, as are all the 500's, maybe I can convince a board member to sell me theirs when the time comes!

I noticed on the other thread you have installed the PAD airbox along with your filters and chip. I have a 400E with a chip and the K&N filters, did you have a chance to do these in stages? If so what are your thoughts, performance-wise, on the addition of the airbox?

I am considering adding the box to compliment the chip & filters, and $200 for the PAD airbox isn't bad.

Thank you for your reply.

Brian:

Thank you for your kind words.

Regarding the chronology of events in my case, I upgraded the filters and airbox at the same time. Although I did not dyno-test my 500E in a before-and-after context, the perceived difference was prononced. "Letting it breathe" is, indeed, a good thing.

I must say, though, that the most noticable difference is the elimination of the mid-muffler/center resonator. The throatiness of the engine is TASTY at RPM > 3000.

RENNtech's airbox is $900.00, plus a $400.00 core charge, if I am not mistaken (to clarify, email Bill Brady at RENNtech at: WBrady2410@aol.com ). I prefer it (aesthetically); however, I believe that its volume is the same as the PAD airbox. I bought the PAD airbox as the result of the same line of thinking you have chosen: a penny saved... et cetera.

All told, though, if I could do it again (and I well may, as soon as I find a new job), I would spring for the RENNtech box: it's just one less thing to re-do later.

As we say in the tech industry, your "TCO" (Total COst of Ownership), long-term, will be less - and you will be more satisfied with the results.

Just my $0.02 - or - as MBenz likes to say, my $200.00).
Well, in this case - my $1,300.00 (until the eventual core refund). All interested parties should note, also, that RENNtech's ONLY core refund is for the airbox: NO core refunds exist for any of their other mods.

Kind regards,
