1997 C36...

Hello all. I don't see many posts about the C36 in the Hot Rod section so I have some time now, I just want to talk about the car....

If anyone is looking for one, I would recommend it. I test drove a C43 when I was looking but settled on the C36 because the kilometers were lower. Both cars are fantastic. I love the (screaming) exhaust note of the C36 (the rumble of the C43 is one off the best I have heard too), the handling is excellent, and for a C class, the fit & finish is quite good. It is fun to drive fast (and believe me, the car is MUCH faster than it appears to feel), great to throw into corners, and best of all, an awesome every day car. That could be one of the greatest qualities of an AMG car, the ability to be a daily driver.

Fuel mileage has beeen very good. 19 - 20 mpg in the city and 26 - 27 on the highway. I always run Chevron Supreme 92. The bose system is good but my days of cranking the system are done.

What else can I say. Huge trunk with the CD changer and full size spare. Quite nice. My last car was a 1992 500E. An awesome car and I really don't want to start a C36 vs. 500E thread because they are both great cars that excel at different things.

I always wanted to post this too so that if someone does a "search" on the C36, this will come up and I would be more than happy to answer questions.

P.S. For 1 year, the car has been cheap to run and reliable. My car currently has 88,000 kilometers.

Cheers!

amg c class

Couldn't agree more, best C class to have is the one with some muscle under the hood. Haven't driven a C36 but love the 43. Did the C36 offer up Xenon headlamps too? Post some pics when you can.

Hey Barker...

I am not sure about the Xenons. I don't think so. I will try to post some pics after the detail. Cheers!

Having owned both as well, I would never give up the 500e for a C36.

Hey 2phast..

Yes I agree that the 500E is the better car. My reason for selling was I depreciated it for business and it was time for it to move on (tax wise). It went to a great owner who will carry the torch and keep the car in awesome shape. I do a lot of city driving (Vancouver BC) and the C36 is a bit more enjoyable darting in the streets and the fuel consuption is much better for me now. On the highway, I do miss the power of the 500E. It could be one of the best highway cruisers of all time. After my lease is up, I am not sure which car will be next but the C36 is doing the job quite well in the meantime.

track

Haven't done autocross with the c43 but it has spent quality time on the track. with a good sticky set of tires, the car has done well.
