RENNtech modifications survey

Fellow 500E/E500 owners:

I am interested to learn who has installed any of the following RENNtech mods - and your reviews, thereof:

- Oil cooler kit ($1,250)
- Performance rear subframe modification ($2,195)
- Performance final drive ratio AND limited slip ($4,350)
- Transmission upgrade ($1,290)
- Transmission cooler w/fan ($745)

I appreciate past reviews of the RENNtech oversized radiator (the consensus of which seems to be that it isn't all that much an improvement).

As of this writing, I am running a RENNtech front sway bar and RENNtech first gear start valve body (both VERY nice); I especially want to acquire the RENNtech performance rear subframe modification so that I can adjust my rear camber (my tech and I are pacing with anticipation).

RSVP / Thank you very much, in advance.

If you intend to use the car for track events with larger than std. tires and/or R compound type tires, the subframe mod is a must to assure alignment under high load cornering. It also acts somewhat to improve traction (like traction bars) because the links are noncompliant compared to the stock parts. I did not use the RennTech kit because I did not like the idea that you had to 1) remove the subframe from the car to do the installation and 2) that you have to drill out the mounting points. Making it a truely permanent change. I engineered a similar kit using higher quality components than that offered by RT. I have found it to be the single best improvement to track handling because it allows complete adjustment of the alignment and maintains the settings at all times. I also use a RT front bar (strongly recommended). My car is lowered with 255 fronts and 285 rears.

Thank you, Lou.

Do you have any pictures of your car (expecially of the rear camber)? My 500E is also lowered, and I am curious to see the results of your painstaking efforts.

Kind regards,

I don't have any pictures, but you can set camber to any spec you want from approx. + 1.0 deg to neg 3.0 deg. Beyond that I would rub on the inner wheel well or fender. For track use I set rear to -1.5 deg. Street use I set to -0.75 deg.

Lou,

I am sure their are more than a few of us that would really like to see some pictures of your car, since apparently it's KING on the track! I get this impression from your prior posts regarding your track times being lower than almost anything else out there!

Any plan's on taking some, it's really easy to get the pictures posted on the web?

subframe

Thank you, Lou.

If I may inquire, when you say you engineered your own solution - does that mean you machined all parts, et cetera? Do you have any pictures/a description of the kit?

RSVP,

It is similar in concept to the RennTech kit but I used 5/8" aerospace rodends (stronger and higher quality), steel tubing with swedged ends (std. NASCAR components), and designed my own high misalignment bushings to take the 5/8" rodends down to 12mm so I wouldn't have to drill out the subframe mounting points. All parts are either stainless or plated to prevent corrosion. All parts cost approx. $2000 (mostly in rod ends). E-mail me if you want to discuss further.

Have any of you checked out the suspension components offerred by Delsing Motorsports?

I have their camber arms, and they work great and you don't need to drill-out or drop anything.

Also, RC-Imports does HEIM-seams on the rear control arms as well.

Hey Scott. Hows it going long time no see. I'm going to be doing the oil cooler mod soon for my 500E. Could you possibly take some pics of the mounted oil cooler. Does you bolt right under the radiator core support. Like the early 500SL's, I worked on one the ther other day. I saw the setup. Thanks
